Personal Support Worker - Don Mills, Toronto - CAD$756.00/week
Description
About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for an 88-year-old woman living independently in a condominium in the Don Mills area of Toronto. She's typically very active and sharp, but has been experiencing a decline following a hip issue that left her less mobile. She's now dealing with increased confusion, reduced physical activity, and moments where she feels overwhelmed by her symptoms. She has a robust personality—loving but independent—and may initially resist help or downplay her needs. She requires someone patient who can work with her quirks and provide both practical support and emotional companionship.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with light housekeeping, including cleaning and laundry (a cleaner comes every three weeks, but more frequent tidying is needed)
- Prepare meals and ensure she's eating regularly and staying hydrated
- Help with errands and occasional transportation to appointments
- Provide companionship and emotional support to combat loneliness and depression
- Assist with technology questions (phone, laptop, iPad)
- Encourage and support light exercises at home to maintain mobility
- Monitor her well-being and communicate any concerns to the family
- Help with mobility support, including walking assistance and transfers (she uses a walker)
- Rearrange furniture as needed to accommodate her walker in the small condominium
What We're Looking For:
- Female caregiver who speaks English fluently
- Experience with seniors, particularly those with mobility challenges and memory changes
- Patient, calm,
and able to handle a strong personality with grace
- Reliable and consistent, with strong communication skills
- Takes initiative and can adapt to changing needs
- Comfortable providing personal care support if needs evolve
- Brings positive energy and makes the client feel comfortable
- Respectful of independence while providing necessary support
Schedule:
11am to 3pm, 7 days per week. This is their first time receiving professional care, so a gentle, understanding approach during the transition is essential.
