As a Lloyds coverholder at McDougall Insurance, we manage several Lloyds binding authorities for the property and casualty insurance business. We are seeking a candidate with a background in commercial insurance, who is looking for an opportunity to work in a growth oriented environment, and at the same time enhance and develop their underwriting knowledge and skills. The successful candidate will be responsible for profitable new business growth and successful management of renewal business.
Responsibilities
- Underwrite new business and renewals by assessing exposures and hazards using sound underwriting principles. Apply appropriate terms and conditions, with the goal of profitability and long term retention of accounts.
- Analyse insurance coverage requirements to align with available products and coverages, and provide innovative insurance solutions on more complex risks.
- Provide assistance in the development and marketing of products
- Develop and maintain positive business relationships with brokers within the McDougall Insurance Group brokerages, including office visits and marketing functions
- Help achieve departmental budget targets through profitable underwriting growth, and development of new business opportunities
- Coach and mentor team members to develop technical underwriting skills and enhance the overall value of the Lloyds underwriting team.
- Adhere to underwriting guidelines, and the binding authority provided by the Lloyds underwriting agreements.
Qualifications
- 3 to 5 years commercial insurance underwriting experience and sound knowledge of property and casualty insurance.
- Achieved or working towards industry accreditation such as CIP or CRM
- Solid analytical and decision making skills
- Ability to work independently and at the same time be a strong team member willing to provide mentorship and support to coworkers to foster the growth of an exceptional underwriting team.
- Solid aptitude for working within Microsoft office workplace – outlook, excel and word.
- Excellent negotiation skills.
- Superior organization skills and the ability to juggle competing priorities to meet the needs of a dynamic and busy workplace environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Must be willing and eligible to obtain a RIBO license
