Job Summary

The Convenience Store Cashier is responsible for providing friendly, efficient customer service while maintaining a clean, organized, and well-stocked store. This position involves operating the cash register, processing customer transactions, stocking shelves and coolers, maintaining cleanliness throughout the store, and assisting with daily store operations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

- Customer Service: Greet customers in a friendly and professional manner, answer questions, assist with product inquiries, and ensure a positive shopping experience.
- Cash Handling: Operate the cash register and point-of-sale system, process cash, debit, and credit transactions accurately, and provide correct change and receipts.
- Stocking and Merchandising: Stock shelves, coolers, and displays; rotate products to ensure freshness; check expiry dates; and maintain neat, organized, and fully stocked merchandise areas.
- Cleaning and Maintenance: Sweep and mop floors, clean counters and other surfaces, wipe down coolers and display areas, clean spills promptly, and keep the store presentable and free of hazards.
- Store Organization: Maintain clean and organized shelves, storage areas, checkout counters, and backroom spaces.
- Product Monitoring: Monitor inventory levels, report low-stock items, check product quality, and notify management of damaged, expired, or missing merchandise.
- Food and Beverage Areas: Keep coffee stations, beverage dispensers, food preparation areas, and other customer-use areas clean and sanitary, following applicable health and safety procedures.
- Safety and Security: Follow store policies and procedures, maintain awareness of suspicious activity, report safety concerns, and comply with cash-handling and loss-prevention guidelines.
- Customer Assistance:



Answer phone calls, assist with returns or exchanges according to store policy, and direct customer concerns to management when necessary.
- Additional Duties: Assist with opening and closing procedures, waste disposal, receiving deliveries, and other tasks as assigned by the store manager.

Qualifications and Skills

- Robust customer service and communication skills.
- Basic math skills and the ability to handle cash accurately.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Willingness to perform cleaning, stocking, and other physical tasks.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift or move merchandise as required.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
- Previous retail or cashier experience is an asset but not required.

Work Environment

This position is based in a convenience store and involves regular customer interaction, operating a cash register, cleaning store areas, restocking merchandise, and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment. The role may require standing for extended periods, bending, lifting, and working in cooler areas while stocking refrigerated products.

Performance Expectations

The successful candidate is expected to provide excellent customer service, maintain accurate cash transactions, keep floors and surfaces clean, ensure shelves and coolers are stocked and organized, follow store safety and sanitation procedures, and contribute to the overall efficient operation of the store.

Pay: From $16.00 per hour

Expected hours: 12.0 – 18.0 per week
