Job Posting: Thrift Store Merchandiser & Cashier
Hours: 3 x 6-hour shifts per week, Mondays to Wednesdays, some Saturdays
Wage: $19.50/hour

About the Position
We are seeking a reliable, customer-focused Merchandiser & Cashier to support our Manager and help ensure an organized, welcoming, and profitable retail environment. The ideal candidate has completed Secondary School, enjoys working with the public, and thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting. This role involves merchandising, cashiering, customer service, and supporting loss-prevention practices.

Key Responsibilities

Cashiering & Customer Service

- Open and close the till as required
- Operate POS system, debit, and credit machines
- Assist customers, provide information on sales, and direct clients seeking additional services
- Help diffuse difficult customer situations using robust communication and conflict-resolution skills
- Promote store values and educate the public about how donations support the community

Merchandising & Store Operations

- Tag, price, and place merchandise throughout the store, including specialty areas
- Stock shelves, sort inventory, and create in-store displays
- Place buggies of stock and hang clothing on the sales floor
- Work indoors and outdoors,



supporting other departments as needed
- Evaluate donations and distinguish saleable from unsaleable items
- Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary workplace

Teamwork & Administration

- Collaborate with the sales team to ensure consistent pricing
- Support loss-prevention procedures
- Troubleshoot POS or system issues as needed
- Work with minimal supervision while contributing positively to the team

Required Skills & Qualifications

- Cashier experience and strong customer service background
- Ability to count cash accurately
- Strong interpersonal skills; able to work with difficult situations and help diffuse conflict
- Excellent oral communication
- Ability to work safely in a busy environment with limited space
- Sound judgment in evaluating donated merchandise
- Ability to lift 50 lbs or more occasionally
- Friendly, outgoing, team-oriented attitude
- Must consent to a criminal record check
- Thrift store experience and knowledge of typical pricing an asset
