Job Description: Tool and Die Maker

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Tool and Die Maker to support automotive metal stamping and manufacturing operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for building, assembling, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing dies, tools, fixtures, and related production equipment to ensure reliable, high-quality manufacturing.

This hands-on role requires strong machining and fitting skills, knowledge of metal stamping dies, and the ability to work closely with engineering, production, and maintenance teams to minimize downtime and maintain tooling performance.

Key Responsibilities

- Build, assemble, fit, maintain, and repair stamping dies, tooling, jigs, and fixtures used in automotive manufacturing.

- Set up, operate, and work with precision machining equipment and hand tools to manufacture and modify tooling components.

- Troubleshoot die-related issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.

- Perform die adjustments, spotting, fitting, alignment, and modifications to meet production and dimensional requirements.

- Support the maintenance and repair of progressive dies, transfer dies, and other stamping tools.

- Inspect tooling components using precision measuring instruments to ensure dimensional accuracy and quality.

- Assist with die tryouts, testing, commissioning, and production launch activities.

- Collaborate with tool designers, manufacturing engineers, production personnel, and maintenance teams to resolve tooling problems.

- Respond to tooling breakdowns and perform repairs to minimize production downtime.

- Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve tool life, production efficiency, and product quality.

- Maintain tooling records,



repair documentation, and preventive maintenance schedules as required.

- Follow workplace safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized toolroom.

Qualifications

- Completed apprenticeship or certification as a Tool and Die Maker, or equivalent relevant industry experience.

- Previous experience in automotive manufacturing, metal stamping, or a similar industrial environment.

- Strong hands-on experience building, fitting, repairing, and maintaining stamping dies and tooling.

- Knowledge of progressive dies, transfer dies, forming dies, and related tooling systems.

- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T;, and technical specifications.

- Experience using precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, indicators, and gauges.

- Knowledge of machining, grinding, fitting, spotting, and die adjustment techniques.

- Ability to troubleshoot tooling issues and work effectively under production deadlines.

- Strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and problem-solving skills.

- Commitment to workplace safety, quality standards, and teamwork.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience working with high-tonnage stamping presses and high-volume automotive production.

- Familiarity with roll forming, metal fabrication, welding, and automated assembly processes.

- Experience supporting die tryouts, new program launches, and production troubleshooting.

- Knowledge of preventive tooling maintenance and continuous improvement practices.

- Experience working in a multi-shift manufacturing environment.
