Model nonlinear behavior and reconfiguration in mechanical metamaterials at McGill University. This part-time research appointment is located at Macdonald Eng. Bldg.
The Research Associate develops analytical and computational models for instabilities, buckling, and reconfiguration pathways. You will study multistable, origami-inspired, kirigami-inspired, and stimuli-responsive designs while applying nonlinear elasticity, structural stability, and multiscale theory. Experimental validation, scientific programming, and data interpretation support the research.
Key Responsibilities:
- Predict nonlinear mechanical behavior through computational modeling
- Investigate mechanical, thermal, magnetic, and electrical actuation
- Analyze instabilities and reconfiguration pathways
- Compare experimental results with theoretical predictions
- Prepare manuscripts, conference presentations, grants, and reports
Requirements:
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related discipline
- Minimum five years of research experience
- Robust knowledge of solid mechanics and structural stability
- Experience with finite element software and scientific programming
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Bring nonlinear mechanics, modeling, and scientific communication expertise to McGill’s mechanical metamaterials research program.
