Summer Research Associate
Contract Duration: 4 - 6 months
Location: Brunkild/Rosenort, Manitoba
Position Description
Assist in general day-to-day operations of Taproot Research Ltd. Gain agronomic knowledge and experience in corn, soybeans, canola, cereals, and specialty crops. This role involves field activities throughout the growing season for carrying out research crop trials, starting from field preparation through to harvest including, but not limited to:
- Plot seeding
- Plot maintenance (rototilling, spraying, weeding)
- Plot harvest and sampling
- Application of crop protection treatments with backpack sprayer
- Crop staging
- Weed identification and management
- Disease identification
- Agronomic and qualitative trial assessments
- Equipment operation including tractors and plot combine
- Grass mowing / weed whacking
- Yard site / office upkeep and maintenance
- Responsible for supplies and parts inventory
- Data entry
Qualifications
- Enrolled/recently completed an agricultural science or related degree program
- Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license or equivalent
- A general understanding of crop production
- Ability to work independently and outdoors
- Valuable communication and interpersonal skills
- Be able or willing to operate farm machinery
- Attention to detail
Compensation
- Hourly compensation dependent upon experience and education background
- Flexible work hours dependent upon in-season activities and demands
