Company Overview
The Pregnancy & Infant Loss Support Centre (PILSC) is a registered charity based in Calgary, Alberta, supporting individuals and families navigating pregnancy and infant loss and infertility.
Our mission is to support and connect individuals who have experienced miscarriage, stillbirth, Termination for Medical Reasons (TFMR), abortion, neonatal loss, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), or infertility.
We recognize that the journey through loss and healing is deeply individual. PILSC provides accessible pathways to support, including counselling, peer support, groups, education, and community connection.
About the Role
PILSC is seeking a Treasurer to join our working Board of Directors and provide financial leadership and oversight as we continue to strengthen the sustainability and impact of the organization.
The Treasurer works closely with the Board Chair, CEO, staff, and external financial professionals to help ensure PILSC maintains strong financial practices, understands its financial position, and makes informed decisions about its future.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with financial expertise who wants to contribute their skills to a growing, community-focused charitable organization.
Key Responsibilities
The Treasurer will:
- Provide oversight of PILSC’s budget, financial reporting, financial controls, and overall financial health.
- Review financial statements and provide regular, understandable financial updates to the Board of Directors.
- Work collaboratively with staff and external financial support to identify financial risks, trends, and opportunities.
- Support the development and review of PILSC’s annual operating budget.
- Contribute financial insight to longer-term planning and organizational decision-making.
- Help ensure appropriate financial policies, controls, and processes are in place.
- Support the Board in fulfilling its fiduciary responsibilities and understanding the financial implications of key decisions.
- Work collaboratively with fellow Board members and PILSC leadership to support the organization’s sustainability and strategic priorities.
What We’re Looking For
We would love to hear from candidates who bring:
- Experience in accounting, finance, financial management, or a related field.
- The ability to interpret financial statements, budgets, and financial forecasts.
- An understanding of financial controls, risk management, and valuable governance.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to make financial information understandable to people without financial backgrounds.
- A collaborative approach and willingness to work alongside staff and fellow Board members.
- Commitment to PILSC’s mission and to inclusive, compassionate, community-based support.
Experience with nonprofit or charitable organizations is considered an asset.
A CPA designation is an asset but is not required.
Board Commitment
PILSC is a working Board, meaning Directors contribute both governance oversight and their professional expertise to help move the organization forward.
Board members can expect to contribute approximately 60 hours annually, or an average of five hours per month. This includes Board meetings, committee or portfolio work, participation in key PILSC events, community engagement, and support related to their individual Board portfolio.
Equity & Inclusion
PILSC is committed to building a diverse and inclusive organization where people feel valued, respected, and supported.
We recognize that professional expertise can come from many different paths and that lived experience is also a valuable form of expertise. If you see yourself contributing to this role but do not meet every qualification listed above, we encourage you to apply.
