As a patient-centred hospital, an active member of the Patient and Family Advisory Council sits on many hospital committees, helping to ensure that the voice of the patient is truly embedded in our care.
About the Role
Queensway Carleton Hospital is seeking an accomplished, future-focused nursing executive to serve as Vice President, Quality & Chief Nursing Executive (CNE). Reporting directly to the President and CEO and serving as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, the VP Quality & CNE will shape the future of nursing, professional practice, quality, patient safety and patient experience at a pivotal time of growth and transformation for QCH.
This focused executive mandate reflects QCH’s commitment to strengthening strategic nursing leadership and creating the capacity required to advance clinical excellence across the organization. The VP Quality & CNE will provide enterprise-wide leadership for nursing professional practice and stewardship, quality and patient safety, accreditation, patient relations, and clinical risk management. As a trusted advisor to the President and CEO, Executive Leadership Team and Board, the successful candidate will translate evidence, performance insights and the voices of patients, families and care teams into clear priorities and measurable improvements.
A defining feature of the role is the close, trusted partnership with the Vice President, Clinical Services. Together, the two leaders will provide integrated leadership across patient care: the VP Clinical Services leading day-to-day clinical operations, access, flow and service reliability, and the VP Quality & CNE providing enterprise stewardship of nursing practice, quality, safety and accreditation. Through shared priorities, clear decision rights,
timely escalation and joint accountability for patient experience and sustained improvement, they will ensure that operational decisions and professional standards reinforce one another across every program.
The portfolio also includes strategic oversight of select clinical programs, currently Childbirth, Chronic Disease Management and Skin & Wound Care, with final accountabilities aligned to the strengths and experience of the successful candidate. Highly visible within QCH and across the broader health system, the VP Quality & CNE will champion nursing excellence and workforce development, strengthen academic, regional and system partnerships, foster a just and learning culture, and lead innovation that improves outcomes and experiences for patients, families and teams. This is a compelling opportunity to build on a robust foundation while defining the next chapter of quality, professional practice and nursing leadership for West Ottawa.
QCH Leadership Competencies The successful incumbent will have the ability to demonstrate the full suite of QCH leadership competencies, which guide how leaders inspire teams, shape culture, and drive organizational performance. These include:
Model the Way – Relating to others with authenticity, integrity, and openness; building trust and leading with courage and humility.
Develop & Empower Others – Bringing out the best in people, supporting growth, coaching for success, and recognizing contributions.
Create Alignment – Providing visionary, dynamic leadership; connecting people to purpose; fostering accountability and clarity of expectations.
Collaborate Without Boundaries – Encouraging open exchange of ideas, strengthening teamwork, and partnering across teams and systems to achieve shared goals.
Continuously Improve – Cultivating learning, innovation, and proactive problem‑solving; planning for the future and enabling experimentation and improvement.
Foresight – Anticipating future needs, navigating risk, and positioning the organization for long‑term success.
Experience & Education
QCH is looking for a future-focused and authentic nursing executive whose leadership is deeply rooted in advancing professional practice, strengthening quality management systems, and elevating patient experience across complex care environments.
The successful candidate is a Registered Nurse (RN)
in good standing and holds a Master’s degree in a relevant health or business discipline. They bring 7–10 years of progressive acute care leadership experience and demonstrate a strong track record in driving quality improvement. Their ability to build trust, nurture high‑performing teams, and collaborate effectively across departments and system partners positions them to lead with clarity, influence, and impact.
