The Lax Kw'alaams Administration Department has an exciting and immediate opening for a Casual Custodian. As a key member of the team, this role is responsible for providing for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment in buildings and facilities. This includes performing routine cleaning tasks, restocking supplies, and reporting maintenance or safety issues. Janitors play a key role in ensuring that workspaces, public areas, and restrooms are hygienic and presentable.

Responsibilities

- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and scrub floors in assigned areas
- Clean and disinfect restrooms, including sinks, toilets, and mirrors
- Refill supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper
- Wash, dry and stack coffee cups left in the kitchen; sanitize surfaces in the kitchen areas; wipe the exterior of the fridges and other appliances; make sure coffee pot(s) are off and cleaned; wipe down counters.
- Empty trash receptacles and replace liners
- Clean windows, doors, and other surfaces
- Dust and wipe down furniture, fixtures, desks, shelves and other surfaces
- Maintain janitorial equipment and storage areas clean and organized; provide ordering requirements to the Supervisor
- Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, or needed repairs to supervisors
- Monitor and ensure that the building premises are locked, secure and safe during unoccupied hours
- Follow safety guidelines and proper handling of cleaning chemicals

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

- High School Diploma

Experience

- Previous janitorial, custodial, or housekeeping experience is an asset

Competency

- Must be available to work from 5:00pm – 8:00pm, Monday to Friday, when contacted
- Must be available for last-minute calls and shift coverage
- Ability to work independently
- Ability be organized and clean
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques, materials, and safety standards
- Strong attention to detail and reliability
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Physical ability to lift, bend, and perform repetitive cleaning tasks

Physical Demands and Working Workplace

Physical Demand

- Ongoing exposure to dust, chemicals, unsanitary conditions
- Ongoing physical activity like mopping, sweeping, scrubbing, lifting, bending and stretching; physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs

Mental Demands

- You will have to complete several tasks and responsibilities at one time and must be prepared to deal with emergencies and stressful situations at any time

Classification/Pay Scale

- As per the Canadian Union of Public Employees' Local 2365 Collective Agreement
- $ 26.74
