About the Role

We are seeking a warm, compassionate, reliable, and experienced caregiver to support our parents in their home in central Mississauga, near Mavis Road and Eglinton Avenue West.

The position will initially focus on light housekeeping, household organization, meal preparation, and companionship. As trust develops and our family’s needs evolve, the role will gradually expand to include more direct support for a parent living with Alzheimer’s disease.

We hope to find someone who is interested in building a long-term relationship with our family and becoming a familiar, trusted presence in our parents’ lives. The ideal candidate will be patient, attentive, respectful, and comfortable adapting their support as care needs change over time.

A Personal Support Worker (PSW) certificate is an asset but is not required. We welcome applications from individuals with meaningful hands-on experience supporting seniors and people living with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia.

Key Responsibilities

Household Assistance

● Perform light housekeeping, including tidying, dusting, laundry, and maintaining common areas.

● Assist with meal preparation and general kitchen duties.

● Help maintain a clean, comfortable, and organized home environment.

● Assist with groceries, errands, and other household tasks as needed.

Companionship and Daily Support

● Provide friendly companionship, conversation, and meaningful engagement.

● Support familiar daily routines and encourage independence.

● Help maintain a calm, safe, and reassuring home environment.

● Communicate observations or changes in mood, behaviour, or daily functioning to the family.

Dementia Care and Evolving Support Needs

● Provide patient, compassionate support as Alzheimer’s disease progresses.

● Help maintain familiar routines and respond calmly to confusion, repetition, anxiety, or changes in behaviour.

● Gradually assist with activities of daily living as needed, within the caregiver’s training and experience.

● Adapt support in collaboration with the family as care needs evolve.

● Help preserve our parents’ dignity, independence, comfort, and quality of life.

Qualifications and Experience

- Gujarati-speaking preferred to support comfortable communication and build a strong rapport with our parents.
- Familiarity with Gujarati culture and customs is an asset

● Previous experience caring for seniors is preferred.

● Experience supporting individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia is a strong asset.

● A PSW certificate is welcome but not essential for candidates with relevant hands-on caregiving experience.

● Patient, empathetic, trustworthy, dependable, and attentive to detail.

● Comfortable with both household duties and providing companionship and personal support.

● Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with family members.

● Respect for privacy, confidentiality, and the dignity of those receiving care.

● Professional references required.

● Current CPR/First Aid certification and a satisfactory background check are preferred.

Schedule and Compensation

● Job type: Part-time

● Initial schedule: 3 days per week.

● Hours: To be discussed based on availability and family needs.

● Flexibility: Opportunity to increase hours and responsibilities as trust develops and care needs change.

● Location: Central Mississauga, Ontario, near Mavis Road and Eglinton Avenue West.

● Compensation: Competitive and negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

We are looking for someone who can reliably commute to this location for scheduled shifts.

We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys supporting older adults and understands that good care is built on patience, consistency, and trust.

Initially, the role will involve helping around the house and providing companionship. Over time, we anticipate that our family may need additional assistance as Alzheimer’s disease progresses. We would love to find someone who is comfortable with this evolving role and interested in growing with our family over the long term.

The right person will take initiative, treat our parents with kindness and respect, and understand the importance of creating a positive and supportive home environment.
