This Software Engineer role focuses on backend development, distributed systems, and machine learning. You will address content classification, anomaly detection, risk scoring, and safeguards for Generative AI systems. The work includes technical leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and long-term platform strategy.
Key Responsibilities: Architect resilient backend systems powering integrity and safety features
Develop safeguards for harmful or biased Generative AI content
Deploy and iterate models for classification and risk scoring
Collaborate with product, research, security, and operations teams




Mentor engineers and improve platform performance and reliability
Requirements: Eight or more years of backend software engineering experience
Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical degree
Experience operating large-scale, highly available distributed systems
Expertise in Python, Go, Java, or C++
Applied machine learning experience addressing integrity, trust, or safety
Apply backend engineering, distributed systems, and machine learning expertise to strengthen Character.AI safety platforms.
