ABOUT THE ROLE
Wellesley Consulting Group (WCG) on behalf of Clearway Water Solutions is seeking an ambitious, commercially-minded and resourceful professional to join our team as Associate, Growth & Partnerships, supporting our continued expansion in the commercial, institutional and industrial water treatment markets.
This is a hands-on business development and sales position for someone who enjoys identifying opportunities, opening doors, building relationships, pursuing contracts and generating revenue. You'll work with our ownership and management teams to expand our market presence, develop new revenue streams and establish lasting relationships with customers, distributors, contractors, property managers, purchasing departments and other commercial partners.
We're not looking for someone who simply develops sales strategies or waits for leads to arrive. We need someone who can develop the strategy, pick up the phone, make the introductions, prepare the proposals and close the deals, and lead a team of sales/client care professionals.
The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, persuasive, organized and comfortable navigating everything from an introductory sales call to a complex institutional procurement process. We're interested in someone with a proven track record in B2B sales, business development and commercial relationship management who can learn our products and industry.
HOURS & WORK WORKPLACE
We value work-life balance, flexibility and results over traditional office hours. You will have considerable independence in how you organize your work, manage your prospects and pursue business opportunities.
Clearway operates in a hybrid environment, with mandatory in-person team meetings every Monday and Thursday in Victoria:
- Monday: Weekly planning, sales priorities, pipeline development and identification of new business opportunities with management/ownership.
- Thursday: Weekly recap, review of sales activity, proposals, outstanding opportunities and next steps.
Meeting times will be coordinated with you and our management team and confirmed in advance.
Outside of these meetings, you are free to structure your working hours around your life and the requirements of the position, provided you remain reasonably reachable and responsive during regular business hours, most often 11:00am - 3:00pm Monday-Thursday each week.
Some travel throughout Greater Victoria and British Columbia may be required for client meetings, site visits, industry events and business-development opportunities.
At the end of the day, we care about communication, reliability, and getting the work done well, and on time (not when you choose to sit down and do it).
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Sales, Business Development & Revenue Growth
Take ownership of developing and executing sales initiatives that generate new business and expand existing customer relationships.
Responsibilities include:
- Identifying and pursuing commercial, institutional and industrial sales opportunities;
- Researching and approaching prospective customers, purchasing departments and decision-makers;
- Developing and maintaining a qualified sales pipeline;
- Conducting outbound prospecting, cold outreach and relationship-building activities;
- Preparing estimates, quotations, proposals and commercial presentations;
- Negotiating commercial opportunities and closing sales within approved parameters;
- Identifying opportunities for recurring product sales, renewals and expanded accounts;
- Developing relationships with distributors, resellers and channel partners; and
- Tracking sales activity, conversion rates, opportunities and revenue performance.
We want someone who is driven to create opportunities, not simply wait for them to arrive.
RFPs, Tenders & Commercial Procurement
A significant part of this position involves identifying, evaluating and pursuing public- and private-sector procurement opportunities, including projects where Clearway may participate as a primary bidder, subcontractor, supplier or consortium partner.
You will:
- Monitor procurement platforms, tender portals, capital projects and industry opportunities;
- Identify relevant RFPs, RFQs, invitations to tender, expressions of interest (EOIs) and other procurement opportunities;
- Research upcoming projects and identify opportunities to position Clearway before formal procurement begins;
- Evaluate eligibility, technical requirements, commercial viability, procurement rules and submission deadlines;
- Research potential prime contractors, project proponents and strategic partners for joint bids or subcontracting opportunities;
- Prepare and coordinate competitive proposals, bid submissions, expressions of interest and supporting documentation;
- Work with management and technical subject matter experts to develop accurate technical and commercial responses;
- Coordinate pricing schedules, product specifications, compliance documentation and other submission requirements;
- Develop relationships with procurement professionals, project stakeholders and potential teaming partners; and
- Track bid outcomes, maintain procurement records and identify opportunities for future participation.
You do not need to be a water treatment engineer, but you must be capable of interpreting procurement requirements, coordinating technical input and producing professional,
persuasive and compliant submissions.
Marketing, Brand Development & Market Positioning
Support Clearway's growth through targeted marketing, sales communications and market-development initiatives.
This includes:
- Developing sales and marketing strategies for priority industries and customer segments;
- Creating and coordinating sales collateral, presentations, pitch decks and product information;
- Identifying opportunities for digital marketing, email campaigns and targeted advertising;
- Developing industry-specific messaging and value propositions;
- Supporting website content, case studies and customer success stories;
- Researching competitors, comparable products and market positioning;
- Identifying relevant trade associations, conferences and networking opportunities; and
- Coordinating specialized marketing work with internal resources or external contractors.
You should understand how marketing supports the sales process and be capable of translating technical product information into compelling commercial messaging.
Strategic Partnerships & Account Development
Build and maintain relationships that create sustainable, long-term revenue opportunities.
This may involve developing partnerships with commercial property managers, facility operators, contractors, distributors, procurement professionals, industry associations and organizations responsible for water systems.
You will identify opportunities for preferred-supplier arrangements, recurring purchasing relationships, distribution agreements and other strategic partnerships.
You will also identify opportunities for government relations, industry advocacy and stakeholder engagement, including building appropriate relationships with public-sector organizations, industry associations, procurement professionals and decision-makers.
Experience with lobbying, government relations or navigating public-sector decision-making processes would be an asset, particularly where these activities can help position Clearway for future projects, partnerships and procurement opportunities. All such activities must comply with applicable lobbying, procurement and conflict-of-interest requirements.
We want someone who understands that a successful commercial relationship extends beyond the first sale.
Research, Market Intelligence & Strategy
Work with management to identify new markets, customer segments and commercial applications for Clearway's products.
You will research industry trends, competitor offerings, pricing structures, procurement practices and customer pain points, using this information to recommend practical growth opportunities.
You will also help identify emerging demand, geographic expansion opportunities and potential new distribution channels.
We value creative thinking and initiative, but expect recommendations to be grounded in sound research and commercial realities.
Project Management & Execution
Take ownership of assigned sales and business-development initiatives from initial research through completion.
You will maintain accurate prospect records, manage deadlines, coordinate proposals, follow up on outstanding opportunities and keep management informed of progress and results.
You will provide day-to-day direction and oversight to sales research, lead-generation and business-development contractors, including assigning priorities, reviewing deliverables, monitoring progress and ensuring their work supports Clearway's broader commercial objectives.
You will work collaboratively with Clearway's ownership and Wellesley Consulting Group (WCG), which provides business development, operational and management support. You will be expected to exercise independent judgment within your assigned responsibilities while maintaining clear communication, accountability and alignment with broader business objectives.
We recognize that effective management doesn't mean doing everything yourself. Clearway actively supports engaging external subject matter experts (SMEs), freelancers and specialized contractors when their expertise, efficiency or cost-effectiveness makes outsourcing the better business decision.
You will be encouraged to identify these opportunities and coordinate external resources where warranted, while maintaining accountability for assigned outcomes.
ABOUT YOU
You're commercially driven, naturally curious and genuinely enjoy developing business.
You're confident approaching new people, comfortable navigating rejection and persistent without being pushy. You understand that successful B2B sales involve research, timing, relationship-building, follow-through and credibility.
You're equally comfortable speaking with a business owner, facilities manager, purchasing professional or senior executive.
You enjoy the challenge of entering a new market, figuring out who the decision-makers are and developing a strategy to earn their business.
You don't need someone to tell you to follow up on a promising lead or remind you that an RFP deadline is approaching.
Non-Negotiables
- Strong professional communication, presentation, persuasion and negotiation skills;
- Demonstrated ability to prospect, develop relationships and generate new business;
- Confidence conducting outbound sales and approaching commercial decision-makers;
- Excellent written English and the ability to prepare polished business correspondence, proposals and presentations;
- Strong research, analytical and organizational skills;
- Ability to understand technical products and communicate their commercial value;
- Experience preparing sales proposals, quotations or other commercial documentation;
- Strong proficiency with Google Workspace, spreadsheets and CRM or sales-tracking systems;
- Ability to independently manage multiple opportunities, deadlines and priorities;
- Sound judgment, integrity and a professional approach to customer relationships; and
- A results-oriented mindset with the initiative to turn opportunities into revenue.
We embrace technology, automation and AI-assisted research, but expect sound independent judgment and attention to detail.
Most importantly, you must be comfortable doing the work yourself, particularly while helping us grow and develop our commercial sales infrastructure.
Education & Experience
We are more interested in demonstrated ability than a particular credential, degree, diploma or otherwise. You either have it, or you don’t.
To give you an idea of “fit” for this role, you will have some, all, or a combination of the following:
- Post-secondary education in business, marketing, commerce, sales or a related field; or equivalent professional experience;
- Approximately 3+ years of experience in B2B sales, business development, account management or commercial partnerships;
- Demonstrated success identifying, pursuing and closing new business opportunities;
- Experience preparing commercial proposals, quotations, bids or RFP submissions;
- Experience developing relationships with corporate, institutional or government customers;
- Experience managing a sales pipeline and maintaining accurate CRM records;
- Experience with strategic account development, contract renewals or recurring-revenue sales; and
- Experience working independently in an entrepreneurial, small-business or growth-oriented environment.
Additional assets include:
- Experience in water treatment, building systems, facilities management, HVAC, plumbing, industrial products or related sectors;
- Demonstrated experience in professional proposal writing, competitive bidding, tender preparation or RFP/RFQ submissions;
- Experience participating in public-sector, municipal, institutional or large commercial procurement processes;
- Experience identifying and developing opportunities to participate in projects as a subcontractor, supplier, joint bidder or consortium partner;
- Experience with government relations, stakeholder engagement, industry advocacy or lobbying within applicable regulatory frameworks;
- Familiarity with procurement processes, BC Bid, MERX, tendering platforms and bid evaluation criteria;
- Existing relationships within relevant commercial or industrial sectors;
- Experience with distributor networks, wholesale sales or channel partnerships;
- Knowledge of digital marketing, email campaigns and B2B lead-generation strategies; and
- Experience with technical product sales or consultative selling.
You do not need to arrive knowing everything about water treatment. We can help you understand our products, applications and technical requirements.
What we cannot teach as easily is initiative, commercial instinct, persistence and the ability to build genuine business relationships.
TO APPLY
Please submit your resume and a brief cover letter explaining why this opportunity appeals to you.
In your cover letter, tell us about a business opportunity you personally identified, pursued and successfully converted into a customer, contract or meaningful commercial relationship.
We are particularly interested in understanding how you identified the opportunity, your approach, the challenges involved and the outcome.
If you have experience preparing successful RFPs, tenders or other competitive commercial proposals, we'd love to hear about that too.
Do NOT under any circumstances physically attend our offices, approach our clients directly or otherwise deviate from the application instructions above.
Submissions consisting only of a resume or appearing to be boilerplate mass applications will not be considered. If you cannot follow the application instructions, it is likely a sign that you are not suited to this role.
Shortlisted candidates will be contacted directly for an initial Zoom interview the weeks of October 26th and November 2nd, followed by an in-person interview for further shortlisted applicants the weeks of November 2nd or November 9th (depending on timing of the first Zoom interview).
We look forward to hearing from people who are excited about building something, not simply maintaining what's already there.
