DINIVIA is hiring its first engineer to join the founder. Our platform is built on Laravel and PostgreSQL and covered by more than 8,000 automated tests. You will take it into production and keep it fast, secure and dependable as restaurants and diners arrive.
You will report directly to the Founder and CEO and help decide how engineering works at DINIVIA from the start.
About DINIVIA
DINIVIA is a Toronto technology company building the way people come together around food. Our first product, DINIVIA Table, gives diners one place to discover restaurants, book a table, plan group and private dinners, order ahead and split the bill, and join social dinners with new people. For restaurants, it brings reservations, floor and table management, ordering, payments and verified guest reviews together in one platform.
We are preparing to launch in the Greater Toronto Area. Our platform is built and in final testing, our waitlist is open at dinivia.ca, and we are hiring the first team that will take DINIVIA to market.
What you will do
- Own production operations: deployments, monitoring, alerting, backups and incident response.
- Build and ship features across the platform, from database migrations to the screens restaurants and diners use every day.
- Strengthen our payment flows with our payment providers, including webhooks, idempotency and reconciliation.
- Lead application security: access control, secrets management, dependency updates, and preparation for penetration testing and PCI DSS self-assessment.
- Keep the platform fast during busy dinner service through query tuning, caching, queues and real-time updates.
- Maintain and extend our automated test suite and continuous integration pipeline.
- Share on-call duties with the founder once we are live, on a schedule agreed in advance.
Qualifications
- A degree in computer science, software engineering or a related field, or equivalent skilled experience.
- Five or more years of professional software engineering, including at least three years building production applications with Laravel and modern PHP.
- Strong PostgreSQL skills: schema design, migrations, indexing and query tuning.
- Experience running production systems with Docker, Linux, Redis and queue workers on a major cloud provider.
- Experience integrating payment providers or other financial APIs safely.
- Test-driven habits with Pest or PHPUnit.
- Sound security judgment and working knowledge of the OWASP Top 10.
- Clear written communication for remote, asynchronous work.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with PostGIS or other geospatial data.
- Experience with Livewire, Alpine.js, Tailwind CSS or WebSockets.
- Experience building marketplaces or hospitality software.
- Familiarity with Canadian privacy law, including PIPEDA.
- A cloud certification such as AWS Certified Developer or AWS Certified Solutions Architect.
Our stack PHP 8, Laravel 12, Livewire, Alpine.js, Tailwind CSS, PostgreSQL with PostGIS, Redis, Laravel Horizon and Reverb, Pest, Docker and Sentry.
