Associate Lawyer (4+ Years) – Insurance Defence Litigation

Ritch Williams & Richards is a boutique litigation firm based in downtown Halifax, focused on insurance defence and marine law. We act for leading national and international insurers on complex and high-value matters.

We are seeking a motivated Associate Lawyer (with 4+ years’ of experience) to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys litigation, takes ownership of their files, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced setting. You’ll have the opportunity to work directly with clients, take on meaningful responsibility, and continue building your practice alongside an experienced and supportive team.

What You’ll Do

· Manage and advance litigation files from initial referral through to resolution with increasing autonomy and take ownership of your own files and practice

· Prepare pleadings, motions, and other court materials

· Prepare detailed liability and damages assessments, and opinions

· Prepare for and conduct discoveries, mediations, and Judicial settlement conferences

· Work closely with partners on complex insurance defence matters

· Build strong client relationships and contribute to excellent client service

· Develop and grow your practice with the support of experienced lawyers and a strong team

What You Bring

· Member in good standing with a Canadian provincial bar, preferably the Nova Scotia Bar (or eligible for admission to the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society)

· At least 4+ years of litigation experience, preferably insurance defence

· Strong written and verbal communication skills





· Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines

· Sound judgment, attention to detail, and professionalism

· A team-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently

· A genuine interest in litigation and a desire to build and grow your own practice
