We are looking for a Family Support Worker to help a family with a single parent, two bright young adults with complex needs and a friendly cat.

You will support two adults with disabilities to maintain a safe, secure home environment, participate in daily living activities, access community services and develop independence, while reducing reliance on unpaid family caregiving. Experience with autism, ADHD, chronic health and managing a family household preferred. Clients would like to work with someone who enjoys talking about progressive politics, social justice, climate justice, and technology and who can support them in their interests in being affirming of Indigenous, 2SLGBTQIA, disabled, racialized and historically marginalized people.

Responsibilities

- Support planning and preparing meals and snacks, including meal planning, shopping, washing, chopping, storing, cooking, baking, freezing, dishwasher, keeping up with inventory, cleanliness and food safety
- Help support individuals in cleaning and organizing shared spaces
- Encourage learning and participation through teaching, conversation, and activities, including supporting conversations, social and adaptive skills and community inclusion
- Support medical needs,



including communication with pharmacy and medical teams, prompting for medications and medically recommended activities, transitioning, driving and supporting medical appointments
- Support basic paperwork and bookkeeping, receipt and expense tracking, and help with administrative tasks
- Support researching, scheduling and performing basic household and yard maintenance, receive deliveries, choose and meet trades and handy persons, cleaners and contractors
- Support clothing selection, laundering, shopping, returns and exchanges
- Support calendar, incoming mail, scheduling dental and medical appointments, making reservations, and communicating with service agencies
- Focus on trust, relationship building, trauma-informed approaches and privacy

Requirements

2+ years of related post-secondary education

First aid certification

Driver’s license, reliable vehicle and an acceptable driver’s abstract

Experience managing a household

Experience with autism, ADHD and chronic health

Warmth, compassion and strong social skills

Vulnerable sector criminal records check (we can help you apply)

Pay: $28.00-$32.00 per hour
