Title: Security Guard

Employment Type: Full-Time

Pay Rate: $27.00/hour

Site: Algonquin College - Ottawa Campus

Schedule: Continental Rotation (12-hour shifts, alternating between 07:00–19:00 and 19:00–07:00; 4-day and 3-day rotating work weeks)

Overtime Method: Averaging Agreement (AA) after 88 hours

Algonquin College - Ottawa Campus is a dynamic educational environment serving thousands of students, employees, and visitors daily. As a security guard at this location, you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe, inclusive, and secure campus community through proactive patrols, safety enforcement, and responsive service.

Note: Active students at Algonquin College are not eligible for employment at this site.

What You'll Be Doing

- Patrol campus grounds on foot, by bicycle, or in a motor vehicle to protect people, facilities, and property.

- Ensure students, staff, and visitors follow college policies, safety codes, and regulations.

- Monitor activities and respond to incidents such as security breaches, disturbances, property damage, thefts, and safety hazards.

- Conduct initial investigations, collect relevant photo or video documentation, and write detailed incident reports.

- Liaise with police, fire, and emergency medical services during critical incidents, evacuations, lockdowns, or medical calls.

- Provide high-quality customer service by assisting campus community members, offering directions, and maintaining a approachable security presence.

- Handle sensitive information with discretion and complete additional security-related duties as assigned.





Must Haves

- At least 1 year of experience in security or a related field.

- Valid Ontario Security License

- Intermediate First Aid + CPR AED

- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently.

- Proven ability to perform security patrols outdoors in various weather conditions.

- Ability to stay calm, clear-headed, and effective during emergency situations.

- Strong written communication skills for creating clear, accurate incident reports.

- Ability to handle confidential information discreetly and professionally.

- Not currently enrolled as an active student at Algonquin College.

Nice-to-Haves

- Police Foundations Diploma.

- Working knowledge of non-defensive communication techniques and managing challenging behaviors.
