Are you organized and outgoing, eager to learn recent skills, and excited to hang out while providing caregiving to a young adult with cerebral palsy?
We are looking for a creative and energetic part-time caregiver/personal support worker to work in an east downtown condo and help get this grade 12 student to and from his classes during the school week, plan and sometimes execute his social calendar, help prepare meals and otherwise help him live his best life.
Pay is decent and progressive, and home is union proud and only welcomes LGBTQ+ folks and their allies.
* Getting him ready for the day (showering, dressing, preparing and administering his g-tube feed, packing his school bag)
* Accompanying him on the school bus to and from school. If you hold a valid driver’s license you may be asked to drive the client’s wheelchair-accessible van
* Providing assistance in the home and the community, including finding activities to do and joining him on those adventures, and engaging with client and his other caregivers to maintain his social calendar for times outside of your shifts
* Helping with schoolwork and building language skills using various augmentative and alternative communication methods, including an eye gaze computer, partner assisted scanning and yes/no questioning.
Being curious and talkative is a definite plus here!
* Helping client engage with his community and the wider city via neighbourhood walks and planned excursions to other areas
* Administering required medication and supplements on schedule, and recording it
* Preparing (shopping for and cooking ingredients, blending and storing meals) and administering his blended diet feeds via g-tube
Don’t worry if you don’t have all these skills and experiences yet; training will be provided for the right candidate/s.
