Manatokan Oilfield Service

Downtown

Are you a payroll professional who enjoys improving processes, solving problems, and working with people?

We're looking for an experienced Senior Payroll Specialist who wants to do more than simply process payroll. This is an opportunity for someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys building relationships across a business, and gets satisfaction from finding better, smarter ways of doing things.

At Manatokan Oilfield Services Inc., you'll play an important role in supporting payroll operations across two Canadian companies, working with a variety of employees, departments, and operational teams.

We're looking for someone who can bring fresh ideas, challenge existing processes, and help us continue to improve how we deliver payroll services to our people.

If you're someone who sees an inefficient process and immediately starts thinking about how to improve it, we'd love to hear from you.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Finance, you'll take ownership of the end-to-end payroll function for approximately 250 employees across Alberta, Newfoundland and New Brunswick.

You'll oversee two bi-weekly payrolls supporting Manatokan Oilfield Services Inc. and ASCO Canada, with exposure to different provincial requirements, operational environments, and employee groups.

This is a hands-on position with the autonomy to manage your responsibilities, contribute ideas, and make a meaningful impact on the way payroll operates.

What makes this chance different?

- Make an impact: Help identify inefficiencies, strengthen internal controls, and introduce practical improvements to payroll processes.
- Work with people: Build strong working relationships with employees, managers, HR, Finance, and Operations across Canada.
- Take ownership: Be the go-to payroll expert, with the independence to manage your function and influence how things are done.
- Enjoy variety: Work across multiple provinces, operational teams, and payroll requirements. No two pay periods are exactly the same.
- Help shape the future: Play an important role in improving payroll accuracy, reporting, systems, and overall efficiency.

What You'll Be Doing

Payroll Management & Compliance

- Manage end-to-end bi-weekly payroll processing for approximately 250 employees across two payroll accounts.
- Review and validate timesheets, attendance, travel allowances, adjustments, bonuses, and other payroll inputs.

- Process terminations, retroactive payments, special earnings, deductions, and other payroll transactions.
- Ensure compliance with applicable employment standards, CRA requirements, collective agreements, and provincial legislation.
- Complete payroll reconciliations, statutory remittances, year-end reporting, and T4 preparation.

Process Improvement & Problem-Solving

- Identify opportunities to simplify payroll processes, reduce manual administration, and improve accuracy.
- Review existing workflows and recommend practical improvements to payroll systems, procedures, and internal controls.
- Work collaboratively with HR, Finance, and Operations to improve the flow of payroll information.
- Develop more efficient reporting, reconciliation, and documentation practices.
- Proactively investigate recurring payroll challenges and implement solutions that address the root cause.

Employee Support & Collaboration

- Act as a trusted point of contact for employees and managers regarding payroll questions and concerns.
- Build positive relationships with teams across our Canadian operations.
- Explain payroll information clearly and professionally, helping employees understand their pay, deductions, and benefits.
- Partner with HR and Finance on employee changes, benefits, payroll adjustments, and reporting.
- Provide guidance and support to managers on payroll processes and requirements.

Benefits, Reporting & Reconciliation

- Complete monthly benefits reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
- Reconcile RRSP contributions, statutory deductions, and other payroll-related accounts.
- Prepare accurate payroll reports and analysis for management.
- Support internal and external audits and ensure appropriate payroll documentation is maintained.

What We're Looking For

You'll be a great fit if you:
