Represent children and the Society in protection litigation with Simcoe Muskoka Family Connexions, preparing cases for Superior Court and Family Court. Apply mediation, advocacy, and legal consultation skills. This permanent Legal Counsel position reports under the general direction of Senior Legal Counsel. You will represent the Society in legal matters involving children in need of protection, prepare and present cases, and complete appeals. The position also provides legal consultation to Agency staff on protection case work.
Key Responsibilities
Represent the Society in child protection legal matters Prepare and present cases in Superior Court of Justice Present matters in Family Court through completed appeals Provide legal consultation to Agency staff Mediate with parties regarding the child’s and Society’s best interests
Requirements:
Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario Knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act Knowledge of litigation processes and procedures Strong interpersonal, listening, verbal, and written communication skills Strong organization and time management under tight timelines Bring child protection law, litigation, mediation, and team-oriented communication skills to Legal Counsel work at Simcoe Muskoka Family Connexions.
