About WeVend

WeVend is a fintech, IoT and payment device solutions provider based in North York. We build the payment technology, customer portals and internal systems that let retailers control devices and accept payments seamlessly.

The Role

We build software differently. Our engineering team works AI-first, and our stack is standardized on Anthropic’s Claude. Claude Code writes the code; our people decide what gets built, how it fits together, and whether it’s good enough to ship. Senior engineers and manager and review anything that touches payments.

You’ll work this way from day one. You won’t spend your days typing code by hand, but you’ll read a lot of it. You’ll use Claude to research problems, reason through requirements and write specs, and Claude Code to build, test and ship them in our Node.js / TypeScript codebase. This isn’t a tool preference. Our project instructions, hooks, MCP connections and team practices are all built around Claude Code, and it’s the environment you’ll work in exclusively.

What You’ll Do

- Turn requirements into specs. Work with product and operations to break features into clear instructions, acceptance criteria and test cases that Claude Code can build from. Use Claude to research, pressure-test and refine those specs before any code is written.
- Direct Claude Code. Build, refactor and fix features end to end, guiding the agent through scoping, implementation and testing in small changes that are easy to review and roll back.
- Maintain the agent’s working workplace. Own our CLAUDE.md project instructions, reusable commands, hooks, permissions and MCP connections so Claude Code understands our systems and follows our standards. Keep secrets and cardholder data out of the agent’s context.
- Verify everything. With guidance from our senior engineers, use automated tests, CI checks and careful line-by-line review of every diff to confirm AI-generated work does what it should, is secure, and works within our PCI environment.
- Know where your review stops. Changes touching payments, refunds, reconciliation, authentication or anything in PCI scope get a senior engineer’s line-level review before merge.
- Ship to the cloud. With guidance from our senior engineers, take features through deployment on our cloud infrastructure using protected branches and CI and monitor how they behave in production.
- Improve how we work. Share what works, document patterns and help the team get more out of Claude and Claude Code.

What We’re Looking For

- Hands-on experience with Claude Code specifically, including writing project instructions (CLAUDE.md) and directing multi-step builds. Experience with Cursor, Copilot or similar tools is useful background, but we’ll expect you to work in Claude Code from day one.
- At least one working project or tool you’ve built with Claude Code (school, personal or work).
- A degree or diploma in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Design or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience building with AI tools.
- Enough technical literacy to read code line by line, follow what it does and spot when something looks wrong, including logic errors that pass the tests. You don’t need to write large systems from scratch, but you should be able to fix a small bug by hand when the agent can’t.
- Structured thinking. You can take a messy business problem and turn it into clear steps, rules and edge cases.
- A testing mindset. You don’t trust output until it’s been checked, and you know how to set up the checks, including edge cases like rounding, retries and duplicate requests.
- Comfort with a terminal and Git (branches, pull requests, worktrees).
- Transparent written communication. Writing good instructions is the core of this job.
- Show your work. Include a link to a project you built with Claude Code (GitHub, demo or a short write-up), ideally showing your CLAUDE.md, custom commands or hooks, and expect to walk us through how you directed the agent.

Nice to Have

- Experience with Claude Code sub-agents, custom hooks or MCP server setup
- Experience with a cloud environment (AWS, Azure or GCP)
- Exposure to payments or fintech concepts such as transactions, reconciliation, refunds or fraud checks
- Experience working in a PCI DSS–compliant environment
- A background in product, QA / test automation, technical support, solutions engineering, data or a related field

Our Interview Process

You can use Claude at every step, and we expect you to. There are no whiteboard puzzles and no syntax quizzes.

We’ll start by meeting to talk about your background and the Claude Code work you’ve done. Next, you’ll do a 60-minute practical session. We’ll have the environment set up ahead of time with Claude Code configured, and give you a small enhancement to one of our existing solutions. You’ll use Claude to scope it and Claude Code to build and test it, talking us through your decisions as you go.

We look at how you break down the problem, guide the agent, check the result and make judgment calls along the way. We also look at whether you catch problems in the agent’s output that the tests miss.
