About Vit Béo
Vit Béo is a Vietnamese restaurant exploring food, culture, and identity through a contemporary Vietnamese-Canadian perspective.
We believe outstanding cooking begins with curiosity. We respect tradition, question assumptions, share knowledge freely, and take pride in understanding not only how something is done, but why.
Our kitchen is collaborative, ambitious, and constantly evolving. We believe in creating an environment where cooks can develop their craft, take meaningful ownership of their work, and contribute to something greater than themselves.
Cooks come first. Always.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for an experienced Senior Line Cook who brings more than technical proficiency to the kitchen.
We need someone who can think independently, organize their work, anticipate problems, and execute consistently without requiring constant direction.
Someone who takes pride in their craft but remains curious about what they don't know.
Someone who takes accountability when things go wrong, responds constructively to feedback, and understands that being a strong cook also means being a strong teammate.
Most importantly, we're looking for someone who can help raise the standard of the kitchen through their actions, judgment, and example.
This is not an entry-level position. We're looking for someone who has already developed strong operational habits and is ready to take on greater responsibility.
What You'll Be Responsible ForKitchen Execution & Technical Standards
- Independently manage assigned kitchen stations during preparation and service.
- Execute dishes consistently according to established recipes, portioning, presentation, and quality standards.
- Maintain speed, accuracy, and organization during high-volume service.
- Demonstrate strong knife skills, cooking techniques, and an understanding of food preparation.
- Maintain proper food handling, sanitation, labeling, and FIFO standards.
- Identify quality issues and correct them before they affect the guest experience.
Organization & Operational Independence
- Plan, prioritize, and execute daily preparation responsibilities within established time expectations.
- Anticipate station needs, ingredient shortages, and potential service challenges.
- Communicate progress, delays, and operational concerns proactively.
- Manage competing priorities without compromising food quality or safety.
- Maintain clean, organized, and service-ready workstations.
- Support receiving, inventory management, dishwashing, cleaning, and opening and closing duties as required.
Teamwork & Communication
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with kitchen staff, management, and front-of-house colleagues.
- Support teammates during service while remaining accountable for your own responsibilities.
- Share knowledge and help less experienced cooks develop their skills.
- Contribute to a collaborative environment where questions, feedback, and learning are encouraged.
- Address mistakes and disagreements constructively.
Continuous Improvement & Accountability
- Demonstrate curiosity about ingredients, techniques, recipes, and kitchen systems.
- Seek to understand the reasoning behind our standards and procedures.
- Identify opportunities to improve workflow, efficiency, and consistency.
- Take ownership of mistakes, communicate them promptly, and participate in finding solutions.
- Receive feedback openly and demonstrate measurable improvement.
- Follow through on commitments and take responsibility for the quality and timeliness of your work.
What We Value
We're particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate the following qualities.
Curiosity
You actively seek knowledge. You ask thoughtful questions, investigate unfamiliar techniques, and want to understand why things work. You don't assume that experience means you've finished learning.
Accountability
You take responsibility for your decisions and actions. When something goes wrong, you communicate it, work toward a solution, and learn from the experience. You don't rely on excuses or wait for someone else to solve problems you can address.
Capacity & Independence
You can manage complex workloads, prioritize effectively, and maintain standards under pressure. You recognize what needs to happen next and act without always being prompted. You become more capable as you gain experience.
Teamwork & Communication
You understand that individual talent is only valuable when it contributes to the team's success. You communicate with care, share knowledge, and help create an environment where others can succeed.
Engagement
You care about the work you do and the people you do it with. You take pride in contributing, remain receptive to feedback, and demonstrate a commitment to improving your craft.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of professional kitchen experience, with demonstrated ability to independently manage a busy station.
- Strong knife skills and foundational cooking techniques.
- Experience working in a fast-paced, quality-focused kitchen.
- Demonstrated ability to organize preparation, manage time, and execute service consistently.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to follow recipes and established operating procedures accurately.
- Valid Food Handler Certification, or ability to obtain it before starting.
- Smart Serve certification, or willingness to obtain it if required for assigned duties.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Ability to perform the physical duties of a professional kitchen role, with reasonable accommodation where applicable.
Vietnamese cuisine experience is an asset, but not required. A genuine interest in learning about Vietnamese food and culture is essential.
What We Offer
- $22–$23/hour, based on demonstrated experience and capability.
- Weekly tips, currently estimated at an additional $3–$4/hour.
- Full-time employment with approximately 40 hours per week.
- Opportunities for professional development and increased responsibility.
- Direct feedback, clear performance expectations, and ongoing coaching.
- A collaborative environment that values curiosity, accountability, and knowledge sharing.
- The opportunity to contribute to the continued development of Vit Béo's kitchen systems, standards, and culture.
Leadership Development Opportunity
We're interested in developing future kitchen leaders from within our team.
For the right candidate, this position may provide a pathway toward a Sous Chef role, with additional responsibilities and compensation.
Advancement is based on demonstrated technical ability, teamwork, accountability, operational judgment, and leadership potential. It is not automatic or guaranteed.
We're equally interested in exceptional cooks who want to continue developing as individual contributors.
Our Hiring Process
We believe a résumé tells us where you've worked, but not necessarily how you work.
Our recruitment process may include an application questionnaire, an interview, and a practical cooking assessment.
We'll be interested in understanding how you approach challenges, respond to feedback, organize your work, and continue developing your abilities.
We aren't looking for someone who knows everything. We're looking for someone who takes responsibility for what they know, recognizes what they don't, and has the curiosity and initiative to keep getting better.
If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.
Pay: $20.00-$23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35.0 – 40.0 per week

- Company events
- Discounted or free food

- What's something you're capable of doing independently today that you couldn't do a year ago? How did you develop that ability?
