Music City Canada

Argyle

Music City Canada is an established brick-and-mortar music retailer in London, Ontario, with a growing national online business serving customers across Canada.

We sell guitars, drums, keyboards, recording equipment, live sound, studio gear, pro audio, accessories and virtually everything musicians need to create, perform and record music.

We are looking for someone who understands that the modern music store isn’t just about the customers who walk through the front door.

A major part of our business happens online — through phone calls, email, website inquiries, online orders, customer follow-ups and conversations with musicians across the country.

We’re looking for a salesperson who is excited by that opportunity.

⸻

The Person We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who combines genuine musical knowledge with proven sales ability.

You might be an experienced music retail salesperson. You might be a musician who has developed strong sales skills. You might come from another retail or specialty-sales environment and have extensive knowledge of musical equipment.

What matters most is that you:

- Know how to sell — not just talk about products

- Enjoy interacting with customers both in person and online

- Are comfortable picking up the phone and talking to customers

- Know how to ask questions and understand what a customer actually needs

- Can recommend the right product rather than simply the most expensive product

- Know how to overcome objections and close a sale

- Enjoy following up with customers rather than waiting for them to come back

- Can build long-term customer relationships

- Are motivated by achieving sales results

- Have a positive, energetic and professional attitude

- Are comfortable working in a fast-paced, increasingly online retail environment

- Take initiative rather than waiting to be told what to do

Most importantly:

We’re looking for someone who genuinely wants to sell.

Music City Canada is not a place where your primary job is to sit around and talk about gear with whoever happens to walk into the store.

We love musicians. We love gear. We love talking about music.

But we’re a retail business, and our customers expect us to actively help them find what they need — whether they’re standing in front of us or sitting at home in another province.

⸻

What You’ll Be Doing

Your role will involve a combination of online sales, telephone sales, in-store sales and customer relationship development.

Responsibilities include:

- Responding to online customer inquiries

- Helping customers select guitars, drums, keyboards, PA systems, recording equipment, microphones, studio equipment, accessories and other musical products

- Following up with customers who have previously contacted us

- Converting inquiries into sales

- Answering sales calls and proactively reaching out to customers

- Assisting customers in the showroom

- Building relationships with repeat customers

- Identifying opportunities to recommend additional products and accessories

- Providing knowledgeable product comparisons and recommendations

- Processing and assisting with online orders

- Helping customers throughout the entire sales process — from initial inquiry through purchase and follow-up

- Maintaining accurate customer information and sales activity

- Working with our team to improve the online customer experience

- Staying current with new products, brands and technology

- Helping create the kind of customer experience that makes people want to buy from Music City Canada again

⸻

Musical Knowledge

You don’t need to be an expert in every category, but you should have substantial hands-on knowledge of musical equipment.

Experience with several of the following is highly desirable:

- Electric and acoustic guitars

- Guitar amps and effects

- Drums and percussion

- Keyboards and digital pianos

- PA and live sound systems

- Microphones

- Studio and recording equipment

- Audio interfaces

- Mixers

- Monitors

- MIDI equipment

- DJ equipment

- Synthesizers

- Cables and accessories

- Home recording

- Live performance equipment

Tell us what you know. We’re particularly interested in people who have spent significant time actually using musical equipment rather than simply having a general interest in music.

⸻

Sales Experience

Previous sales experience is strongly preferred.

We’re particularly interested in candidates with experience in:

- Musical instrument retail

- Consumer electronics

- Pro audio

- Specialty retail

- Automotive sales

- Telecommunications

- B2C sales

- Inside sales

- Online sales

- Account management

- Customer relationship management

A proven ability to consistently sell is more important to us than having the perfect job title on your resume.

If you’ve developed a customer base, consistently hit sales targets, generated repeat business or built strong customer relationships, tell us about it.

⸻

Online Sales & CRM Experience

Music City Canada is actively expanding its online business, so experience with digital sales is a major asset.

Experience with any of the following is considered a bonus:

- CRM systems

- E-commerce platforms

- Online customer service

- Email-based sales

- Live chat

- Customer databases

- Lead management

- Sales pipelines

- Follow-up systems

- Shopify or similar platforms

- Lightspeed or similar retail/POS systems

- Social media sales

- Online product research

You don’t need to know all of these.

You do need to be comfortable learning technology and genuinely interested in selling to customers online.

⸻

What We’re NOT Looking For

This position probably isn’t the right fit if you:

- Prefer to wait for customers to come to you

- Don’t enjoy sales

- Don’t like making follow-up calls

- Prefer only dealing with customers face-to-face

- See online customers as someone else’s responsibility

- Are uncomfortable communicating through email, phone or digital channels

- Have extensive gear knowledge but aren’t interested in learning how to sell

- Need to be constantly told what to do

- Are looking primarily for a place to hang out and talk about music

We’re looking for someone who sees online customers as real customers — because they are.

⸻

What We Offer

- Full-time or part-time employment

- On-site position in London, Ontario

- Work with a large selection of musical instruments and professional audio equipment

- Opportunity to work with customers across Canada

- Opportunity to develop your sales and e-commerce skills

- The chance to work with a team that is serious about building the next generation of Music City Canada

⸻

Location

46 Charterhouse Crescent

This is an on-site position.

⸻

How to Apply

Please submit your resume and a brief introduction telling us:

1. What musical instruments and equipment do you know best?

2. What sales experience do you have?

3. Tell us about a time you successfully turned a customer inquiry into a sale.

4. What do you enjoy about selling to customers online or over the phone?

5. If a customer told you, “I’m looking at this $1,500 guitar, but I’m not sure if it’s worth spending that much,” how would you approach that conversation?

We are much more interested in how you think, sell and communicate than in a generic cover letter.

If you’re a musician who loves gear and you’re a salesperson who knows how to turn that knowledge into relationships and sales, we’d like to hear from you.

Expected hours: 20.0 – 40.0 per week
