Nancy Stem Education helps high school and college students build real understanding in physics, not just memorize formulas. We're growing our team and looking for a tutor who loves mechanics and knows how to explain it clearly.
What you'll do
- Tutor students one-on-one and in small groups in algebra-based physics (AP Physics 1) and calculus-based physics (AP Physics C: Mechanics)
- Teach the core topics: kinematics, dynamics (forces and Newton's laws), work and energy, momentum, rotational motion, oscillations, and fluids
- Help students solve problems step by step and understand the reasoning behind each step
- Find and fix common misconceptions
- Prepare students for the AP exams, school tests including free-response practice and how answers are scored
- Share short progress updates with students and families
What we're looking for
- Solid command of mechanics, at both the algebra and calculus levels
- Comfortable with derivatives, integrals,
and basic differential equations as they're used in physics
- Familiar with the current AP Physics 1 and Physics C: Mechanics exam format (updated for 2024–25)
- Explains ideas clearly and patiently, and adjusts to each student's level
- Reliable and available through the school year, including the AP exam season in May
- Bachelor's degree (or current enrollment) in physics, engineering, math, or a related field preferred
- Tutoring or teaching experience preferred
Nice to have
- AP Physics teaching or grading experience
- Experience tutoring online (digital whiteboard, ipad(use notability), Zoom, etc.)
