Accurate Mechanical & Welding

Calgary

Let’s be honest about what being an apprentice can feel like:

Too many shops bring in a 2nd or 3rd year just to run oil changes, sweep floors, or swap tires all day while a Journeyman hoards the diagnostic work in the corner bay. Or worse—you're freezing your tail off on remote field calls with zero backup when something goes sideways.

That’s not how we do things here.

At Accurate Mechanical & Welding (AMWI), we’re looking for a motivated 2nd or 3rd Year Heavy Duty Apprentice who actually wants to learn the trade, tackle real mechanical problems, and get their Red Seal ticket.

We run a busy, well-equipped 9-bay shop just off the SE ring road in Rocky View County. We work on a healthy mix of equipment: highway trucks, vocational rigs, commercial trailers, buses, and heavy machinery. When you show up here, you work shoulder-to-shoulder with experienced Red Seal techs and fabricators who actually take the time to explain the why behind a diagnosis, not just hand you a wrench and walk away.

What You Can Count On From Us:

- Competitive Starting Pay
- Hourly pay for every hour worked (no flat-rate games), with scheduled bumps as you complete your school periods and log your hours.
- Real Mentorship, Zero Gatekeeping: Our Journeymen want to see you succeed. You’ll be right in the mix on engine overhauls, air brake rebuilds, electrical troubleshooting, aftertreatment diagnostics, and hydraulic systems.
- A Real Life Outside Work: Steady Monday to Friday day shifts (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM). No shift rotations, no late-night road calls, and your weekends are completely yours.
- We Back Your Ticket: We sign off on your AIT Blue Book hours when you earn them—no stalling, no games.

When your technical training period comes up at SAIT or Olds, we support you going.
- Solid Benefits: Comprehensive health, dental, prescription drug, and vision coverage after probation.
- A Shop You Don't Hate Working In: A bright, heated 9-bay shop with overhead cranes, proper shop tooling, and a crew that respects one another.

What You’ll Be Doing:

- Teaming up with Journeymen on big jobs—engines, transmissions, differentials, and complex electrical gremlins.
- Handling full bumper-to-bumper preventative maintenance inspections, services, and CVIP safety prep work.
- Tearing down, diagnosing, and rebuilding air brake systems, wheel ends, bearings, and suspension setups.
- Working on commercial trailers—landing gear, air systems, lighting, and structural hardware.
- Keeping track of your work and parts cleanly in our digital shop system.
- Keeping your bay organized and looking out for safety for yourself and the guy in the bay next to you.

What We’re Looking For in You:

- Active Apprentice: Registered 2nd or 3rd Year Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) in Alberta with AIT.
- Some Shop Mileage: At least 1 to 2 years of practical hands-on experience around highway trucks, transport trailers, or heavy diesel equipment.
- Your Own Tools:

A standard rolling box with basic hand and air/cordless power tools expected of a 2nd/3rd year (AMWI provides all heavy specialty shop tooling and diagnostics).
- Valid Driver’s License: Class 5 with a clean driving abstract (air brake endorsement or Class 3/1 is an asset, but not required).
- Good Head on Your Shoulders: You show up on time, take pride in clean work, ask questions when you aren’t 100% sure, and genuinely want to build a long-term career in this trade.

How to Apply:

If you’re ready to work in a shop where your time is respected and your ticket actually moves forward, let’s talk.

- Email: Send your resume and a quick note on your current AIT apprentice period/hours to [email protected] (Subject: Heavy Duty Apprentice – [Your Name]).

Pay: From $28.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week

Benefits:

- Company events
- Dental care
- Extended health care
- Life insurance
- In office parking
- Vision care

Application question(s):

- How many years of hands-on experience do you have working in a commercial diesel truck, trailer, or heavy equipment repair shop?
- Which period of the Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) apprenticeship have you registered for / currently completed with Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT)
- Do you have your own rolling toolbox and basic hand, pneumatic, and cordless power tools appropriate for a 2nd or 3rd year heavy-duty apprentice?
- Do you hold a valid, non-graduated Class 5 Driver’s License (or higher) with a clean driving abstract?
- Are you able to reliably commute to our shop at 97 Prairie Place in Rocky View County / SE Calgary for Monday to Friday day shifts starting at 8:00 AM?

Work Location: In person
