An ideal candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team across various environments (indoor and outdoor, hazardous, wet, cold, dusty, loud, etc.) throughout the year. We are willing to sponsor millwright apprenticeships for the right candidate.

The job would entail working across three main buildings at our plant, each with their own set of unique processes and associated challenges, ranging from a brand new state-of-the-art facility, to an older pilot process that undergoes constant redesign and improvement, and always has something to fix.

As a member of the maintenance team at MHMI, you can expect on any given day to be working with hazardous chemicals, rebuilding pumps, designing and constructing new piping systems, troubleshooting electrical issues, fighting corrosion by recoating and repairing metal structures, keeping compressors, chillers, and vacuum furnaces running, repairing leaks, and anything and everything in between. Some days are very busy, while others permit time to consider improvements, reorganize workspaces, and plan for future maintenance. A significant portion of the day can be spent outdoors and on your feet.

What we are looking for in a candidate

- A high degree of manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- A high degree of attention to detail and adherence to safe working best practises
- Ability to stand for long periods of time, and repeatedly lift objects up to 50lbs or more
- Experience and proficiency with a wide variety of hand and power tools
- Knowledge of fluid power systems
- Good understanding of materials and their applications in different environments
- Ability to read and interpret piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs;)
- Knowledge of pipe sizing, valves, pumps, and associated process flow equipment
- Knowledge of electrical fundamentals and troubleshooting.

- Fluency with standard measurement systems (metric, fractional, and decimal inch)
- Reflexive understanding of common fasteners and their applications




- Ability to make good judgement calls and prioritize issues to minimize downtime
- A can-do attitude and willingness to get dirty.

What we would consider assets

- 433A industrial mechanic/millwright license
- Ontario college diploma or equivalent in a mechanical or related field
- Industrial safety certifications (working at heights, confined space, SCBA, first aid, etc.)
- Forklift license
- Welding and fabrication experience
- Plastic welding and fabrication (CPVC, PVDF, or polycarbonate) experience
- Experience with PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and other industrial controls
- Experience installing and calibrating analog sensing equipment (level sensors, flow meters, pH probes, etc.)
- Experience with high vacuum systems (particularly vacuum furnaces) would be considered a major asset
- Experience working with strong acids and bases and their associated safety challenges
- Experience maintaining filter presses, pumps, chillers, and scrubber systems
- Plumbing/pipefitting experience
- Experience with Microsoft Excel
