Position Summary
The Training & Development Coordinator is responsible for delivering an engaging, compliant, and practical orientation and training program to our qualified drivers and operations staff. This role requires hands-on trucking industry experience and the ability to connect with drivers in a credible, practical way.
Key Responsibilities
Driver Orientation & Onboarding
- Work with the onboarding team to understand who is coming into each orientation
- Facilitate recent driver orientation — delivering material with passion and ensuring drivers truly understand the content (not simply going through the motions)
- Collect and manage paperwork associated with training and orientation
- Provide clear instruction on ELD systems, hours of service, and company procedures
- Reinforce company culture, safety expectations, and customer service standards
- Collaborate with the T&D; Manager to incorporate any program updates or changes
Training & Development
- Implement and manage the 30/60/90-day driver evaluation program
- Coordinate with operations to determine current driver placement
- Provide feedback to Operations on driver readiness
- Work under the oversight of the Training & Development Manager
- Develop and update training materials relevant to the trucking industry
- Maintain training records
- Conduct safety refreshers & compliance sessions
- Practical equipment & ELD training
- Support mentorship and driver coaching programs and coaching support for at-risk drivers
- Identify skill gaps and recommend training solutions
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure training aligns with provincial and federal transportation regulations
- Maintain training records and documentation for audit readiness
- Work closely with Safety and Operations teams to address recurring issues
Collaboration
- Partner with Recruiting to ensure smooth transition from hire to orientation
- Support Operations with performance improvement initiatives
- Provide feedback on driver readiness and training outcomes
Qualifications & Experience
Required :
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in the trucking/transportation industry
- Previous experience as a professional driver OR in fleet operations/safety
- Strong understanding of Hours of Service regulations
- ELD systems knowledge
- Experience delivering training or facilitating group sessions
- Strong communication and presentation skills
Ideal Profile Note : This role requires someone with industry experience who can speak credibly to technical aspects (pre-trip inspections, load calculations, etc.) to earn driver engagement and respect. Passion for ensuring drivers truly understand the material — not just checking boxes — is essential.
