HVAC Mechanical Engineer

Komline Pure Water

Position Summary

Komline Pure Water is seeking an HVAC Mechanical Engineer to support the design and integration of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and related mechanical systems for water and wastewater treatment projects.

This role will develop practical, reliable solutions for equipment buildings, containerized treatment systems, and other enclosed process spaces. Working closely with project managers, process engineers, electrical and controls teams, and fabrication personnel, the HVAC Mechanical Engineer will help deliver systems that support equipment performance, safe working conditions, and customer requirements.

The ideal candidate combines strong mechanical design skills with a hands-on approach to problem-solving and an interest in water treatment technology.

Key Responsibilities

- Design HVAC systems for modular buildings, containerized treatment systems, equipment enclosures, and other project facilities.
- Perform heating and cooling load calculations, ventilation assessments, and equipment sizing based on environmental conditions, occupancy, and process equipment heat loads.
- Develop solutions for humidity control, condensation prevention, freeze protection, and ventilation of process spaces.
- Select and specify HVAC equipment, including air handling units, heaters, air conditioners, fans, louvers, dampers, and associated components.
- Prepare mechanical layouts, ductwork drawings, equipment schedules, specifications, and design calculations.
- Coordinate HVAC requirements with structural layouts, process piping, electrical systems, instrumentation, and controls.

- Define HVAC control sequences and coordinate alarms, interlocks, and operating requirements with the controls team.
- Review vendor drawings, technical submittals, and quotations for compliance with project requirements.
- Support project estimates, equipment procurement, and technical discussions with suppliers, contractors, and customers.
- Work with fabrication and installation teams to resolve design questions and support efficient assembly and installation.
- Assist with system startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and performance verification.
- Prepare and maintain project documentation, including design revisions, as-built information, and operating requirements.
- Apply relevant building, mechanical, energy, and safety codes and standards.
- Participate in design reviews and identify opportunities to improve reliability, service access, energy efficiency, and standardization.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Experience designing HVAC and mechanical systems for industrial, commercial, or infrastructure applications.
- Working knowledge of heat transfer, fluid mechanics, psychrometrics, duct design, and HVAC equipment selection.

- Ability to perform engineering calculations and translate project requirements into coordinated mechanical designs.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD or comparable engineering design software.
- Familiarity with applicable HVAC codes, standards, and design practices.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications, mechanical drawings, and vendor documentation.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage priorities across multiple projects.
- Explicit communication skills and the ability to collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and customers.
- Professional engineering registration, or eligibility to obtain registration, as appropriate for the position’s location and responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with water and wastewater treatment facilities, packaged process equipment, or modular and containerized systems.
- Experience designing for wet, corrosive, outdoor, or cold-weather operating environments.
- Familiarity with industrial ventilation, dehumidification, and equipment heat-load management.
- Experience with Revit, SolidWorks, or HVAC load calculation software.
- Knowledge of building automation, HVAC controls, and integration with PLC-based control systems.
- Hands-on experience with equipment installation, commissioning, or troubleshooting.
- Experience supporting fabrication teams and developing designs for manufacturability and ease of maintenance.

Work Environment and Travel

This position involves collaboration in office, fabrication, and project-site environments. Occasional travel may be required to support site assessments, installation, startup, and commissioning.
