The work of a Primary Care Paramedic involves operating an ambulance in responding to emergencies and routine calls and providing skilled basic and advanced emergency care to persons suffering from a variety of illnesses and injuries. The Primary Care Paramedic is required to assess, stabilize and report on the nature and severity of the illness or injury. Work is performed with considerable independence and is reviewed through observation, examination of records/reports and the presence or absence of valid complaints. Constantly requires visual concentration or alertness to drive ambulances,
complete site and patient assessments and to administer medications. Regularly there are time pressures in the pre-hospital emergency setting.
Regularly there is lack of control over work pace occurs due to the unpredictable situations during a medical emergency, or unpredictable call volume.
Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Completion of Primary Care Paramedic Program.
Registration with the Provincial Medical Oversight Program.
Experience in Emergency Care is required.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
The applicant must also participate in a pre-placement capabilities test.
