This is a people-first leadership role. You will coach and develop a team, steward a book of construction and contracting accounts with a focus on retention, and partner closely with a broker network.You will lead 6 to 10 underwriters, from associate through to specialist (subject matter expert) level, and report to a Director.What you’ll doLead, coach and mentor a team of underwriters at varied experience levels, including performance management, development planning and career growthOversee full-cycle underwriting of mid-market accounts (typically $10 K to $250 K in premium), including evaluation, selection, negotiation, pricing and documentationDrive retention and profitable growth of an established construction and contracting portfolioBuild and maintain strong broker relationships through regular in-person meetings and responsive,



consistent communicationCollaborate with Actuarial, Claims and other internal partnersGuide technical decisions across the team and support operational changeWhat you bringProven people leadership (2+ years leading underwriters), including coaching, mentoring and the day-to-day HR side of managementStrong construction and contracting underwriting experience in the mid-marketTechnical depth in commercial package: commercial property and CGL, with COC an asset.Solid broker relationship skills and a solid service orientationCIP, FCIP or equivalent designation completed or in progressCompensation and rewardsBase salary: $130,000–$140,000, plus a 15% annual bonusComprehensive health and dental benefitsPaid sick and personal days, plus Christmas Eve offHybrid: 3 days per week in the downtown Toronto office.Continued learning support and clear internal growth pathways#J-18808-Ljbffr
