AI Cybersecurity Specialist

J&W; Nexus | [Remote / Vancouver, BC ,Canada] | Full-time / Contract

About the role

We build AI and automation products, including LLM applications, AI agents, and systems built on open models. As these systems gain access to data, tools, and real-world actions, securing them becomes critical. We’re looking for a cybersecurity specialist who understands both traditional security and the recent attack surface that AI creates.

You’ll own the security of our AI stack end to end, from the models and data to the agents and infrastructure around them.

What you’ll do

- Threat-model AI systems and identify risks such as prompt injection, jailbreaks, data leakage, model theft, and data poisoning
- Red-team LLM applications and autonomous agents, then work with engineers to fix what you find
- Design guardrails and defenses: input/output filtering, permission boundaries for tool-using agents, sandboxing, and monitoring
- Secure the AI supply chain, including open-weight models, datasets, third-party packages, and model-serving infrastructure
- Build detection and incident response for AI-specific abuse and anomalous model behavior
- Harden cloud infrastructure, APIs, secrets management, and CI/CD pipelines
- Help us meet privacy and compliance requirements, and document security practices for clients and partners

- Track emerging AI threats and research, and turn them into practical safeguards

What we’re looking for

- Solid background in cybersecurity: application security, cloud security, network security, or penetration testing
- Hands-on understanding of how LLMs and AI agents work, and how they fail or get attacked
- Familiarity with frameworks such as the OWASP Top 10 for LLM Applications, MITRE ATLAS, and NIST AI RMF
- Experience with threat modeling, vulnerability assessment, and security tooling
- Scripting or programming skills (Python preferred) for building tests and automation
- Clear communication, so you can explain risk to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders

Nice to have

- Experience securing open-source or self-hosted models and inference infrastructure
- Knowledge of adversarial machine learning, model evaluation, or AI safety
- Security certifications such as OSCP, CISSP, Security+, or cloud security credentials
- Background in robotics, IoT, or other cyber-physical systems

Why join us

- Work on the frontier of AI security, where the playbook is still being written
- High ownership and direct impact on how we build and ship
- A small, fast-moving team that takes security seriously from day one
