The Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education (DKPE), one of the three academic units of the Faculty of Education at McGill University, invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in kinesiology or a closely related field; postdoctoral experience is considered an asset. Applications are encouraged from candidates across the full breadth of kinesiology, with priority given to those whose research focuses on (a) motor control (b) biomechanics, or (c) the epidemiology of physical activity, sport, and exercise.

The successful candidate will demonstrate research excellence through high-quality peer-reviewed publications, national and international conference presentations, and a strong record or potential for securing external funding. They will establish an innovative, internationally recognized research program, foster interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaborations, supervise master’s and doctoral students in Kinesiology Science, and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in their area of expertise. Through excellence in research, teaching, mentorship, and service, they will contribute to DKPE, McGill University, and the broader scholarly and professional communities.

We welcome candidates whose research advances understanding of human movement, physical activity, exercise, health promotion, chronic disease prevention, rehabilitation, mobility, functional capacity, and healthy aging, and who can contribute to addressing current and emerging challenges in health and human performance. In the context of the evolving professional landscape of kinesiology in Québec, candidates who can strengthen links between research, professional practice, and interprofessional collaboration are particularly encouraged to apply.

This position will also play a strategic role in advancing the complementary mission of the Sylvan Adams Sports Science Institute (SASSI) at McGill University (https://www.mcgill.ca/sassi/). The successful candidate will contribute to the advancement and translation of knowledge in sport, physical activity and/or human health across the lifespan, while strengthening SASSI’s mandate to generate and apply cutting-edge research in applied sport science, particularly research aimed at optimizing elite athlete health and performance.

We seek a collaborative and forward-thinking scholar who will enrich the DKPE’s collegial academic environment, build sustainable partnerships with academic, clinical, community, public health, and sport organizations, and connect fundamental discovery with meaningful applications in health, sport, and human performance. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to develop productive local, national, and international collaborations. The ability to work in both English and French is an asset.

McGill University is consistently ranked among the world’s leading universities and is located in the heart of Montreal, a vibrant, cosmopolitan, and culturally diverse city where both French and English are widely spoken. With a history of physical and health education dating to 1912, the DKPE offers a B.Ed. in Physical and Health Education, a B.Sc. in Kinesiology, and graduate programs leading to M.Sc., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees across six areas of specialization.
