Job Overview
UnionLink Mortgage (ULM) is a fast-growing mortgage lender, focused on delivering a seamless lending experience to mortgage brokers through technology and sharp execution. We’re looking for a Underwriter or Senior Underwriter who analyzes and verifies loan applications, evaluates risk and makes loan eligibility decisions. This individual ensures all documentation is compliant with relevant regulations.

Location: ON, AB, BC – Hybrid or Remote
Responsibilities
- Review and underwrite customer loans within prescribed authority level, escalating unusual or complex cases to leadership where appropriate
- Review due diligence documents submitted to validate the borrower’s willingness and ability to repay the loan
- Analyze loan risk and request additional information as necessary
- Make loan eligibility decisions and approve or reject applications
- Review and specify loan conditions as necessary
- Ensure deals are underwritten and adhere to internal policy, procedures, guidelines, insurer programs and regulatory requirements
- Document and efficiently communicate reasons for the approval/rejection of loans
- Review appraisal and/or site inspection reports
- Manage the relationship with submitting agent/broker source
- Set the pricing and manage the profitability of each transaction
- Identify and assess AML and fraud risks
- Manage pipeline and ensure daily production goals are met
- Mentor team members and share best practices
- Handle complex deals and support team with escalated issues
Qualifications
- 5 years of experience underwriting in residential mortages
- Most recent role being a senior underwriter, or an underwriter with higher authority level and scope of work
- Explicit, confident communication skills — written and verbal
