OverviewAt Vertical Grain, Every Detail Matters.

Vertical Grain is looking for two Millwork Installer Apprentices / Helpers to join our installation team.

This role works directly alongside our experienced Senior Millwork Installers, supporting the day-to-day installation of high-end custom residential millwork throughout Greater Vancouver.

We're looking for people who are mechanically minded, precision-focused and natural problem solvers. You don't need years of millwork experience. We're more interested in finding people with the aptitude, work ethic and attention to detail required to become excellent installers.

For the right candidates, this is an opportunity to learn a specialized trade and develop into a skilled Millwork Installer.

What You'll Do

Working alongside our Senior Installers, you will:

- Assist with the installation of custom cabinetry, built-ins, wall paneling, doors, trim and architectural millwork
- Learn proper layout, measuring, leveling, fitting and installation techniques
- Assist with scribing, fitting, fastening and finishing details as your skills develop
- Read shop drawings and learn how they translate into an onsite installation
- Load, unload and carefully handle finished millwork
- Protect completed millwork, flooring, walls and surrounding finished surfaces
- Safely and correctly use hand and power tools
- Help identify and solve installation challenges as they arise
- Complete deficiencies and final detailing under the direction of the Senior Installer
- Maintain clean, organized and professional work areas
- Maintain tools, equipment and installation materials

- Represent Vertical Grain professionally while working in our clients' homes

Who We're Looking For

Great installers are more than good with tools. They need to understand how things fit together, work accurately and solve problems when conditions aren't exactly as expected.

We're looking for someone who is:

- Mechanically minded and enjoys understanding how things work
- Precision-focused with strong attention to measurements, alignment and small details
- A natural problem solver who enjoys figuring out how to make things fit and work properly
- Patient and willing to take the time required to get details right
- Comfortable working with tools and learning new techniques
- Reliable, punctual and organized
- Able to take direction while developing the ability to think independently
- Respectful of clients' homes, finished surfaces and other trades
- Comfortable lifting and carefully handling cabinetry and millwork
- Interested in craftsmanship and continually improving their skills

Previous experience in carpentry, cabinetry, millwork, finishing, construction or another mechanically focused trade is an asset, but not required.

For us, mechanical aptitude, problem-solving ability, precision and attitude are more important than simply having years of experience.

What You'll Learn

Our goal isn't to hire someone who remains a helper.

We want to develop the right candidates into skilled Millwork Installers who can eventually take responsibility for their own installations.

Working alongside our Senior Installers, you'll develop skills in:

- Architectural millwork and cabinetry installation
- Precision measuring and layout
- Scribing and fitting
- Reading shop drawings
- Installation sequencing
- Finish detailing
- Troubleshooting and problem solving
- Working efficiently in finished homes
- Qualified communication and site organization

Compensation

$23–$30 per hour, depending on experience and skill level.

As your skills, capabilities and responsibilities increase, there will be opportunities to progress within our installation team.
