Respite Care Specialist – Casual Position with Golding Family Supports Ltd.

Current availability needed: Sunday shifts, with additional opportunities for weekday evening shifts to cover staff absences.

Golding Family Supports provides community-based group respite care for children and youth with neurodevelopmental disabilities. About the Role

The Respite Care Specialist provides community-based respite care for children and youth and transports clients to and from activities using company vehicles. Specialists actively participate in outings, build supportive relationships, and help clients develop social, emotional, and life skills. The role requires strong experience, initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to take responsibility for an assigned group independently while working collaboratively with the staff team.

This role suits someone who is calm and steady when children need support, enjoys participating in activities, and takes supervision seriously. Reliability, patience, and a willingness to build relationships matter throughout each outing. Staff need to notice what is happening around them, take initiative, and communicate when plans or client needs change.

Responsibilities

- Provide group respite care at a maximum adult-to-client ratio of 1:6. During transportation, a ratio of up to 1:7 may apply.
- Transport clients safely to and from community activities within and outside Calgary using company vehicles.
- Maintain continuous supervision and participate actively in activities such as climbing, swimming, recreation centre outings, park programs,

and other community experiences.
- Build trusting relationships with children and youth, and support their social, emotional, and life skills through everyday interactions.
- Adapt to individual developmental and behavioural needs, support emotional regulation, and respond calmly when a child is distressed.
- Use sound judgment during transitions and changing situations, communicate with colleagues, and seek additional support when needed.
- Independently supervise assigned children during activities and transitions, and coordinate supervision with the staff team.
- Communicate with parents or guardians regarding services provided and share relevant observations with the staff team.
- Complete documentation for safety, operational, and liability purposes, and maintain client confidentiality.
- Follow company policies, procedures, and safety practices; complete required training.
- Accurately record hours worked and applicable work expenses, and submit records by the last day of each month.

Required Qualifications

- Minimum five years of experience working with children in disability support, child and youth care, education, social work, behavioural programs, recreation, mental health, or a related field.
- Ability to engage positively with children and youth with neurodevelopmental disabilities and respond to their individual needs.
- Sound judgment and the ability to supervise, problem-solve, and adapt in busy community environments.

- Ability to take responsibility for an assigned group independently, including during transportation, and recognize when additional support is needed.
- Clear, professional communication and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and families.
- A current Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Current First Aid Level C certification.
- A valid driver’s licence and a driver’s abstract covering at least the previous three years.
- Ability to safely transport clients in company vehicles.
- Two professional references.

Compensation

- Hourly pay is between 26–30/hr. Shift minimums, breaks, vacation pay and overtime are set out in the individual letter of offer.
- $2 per shift for work-related use of a personal mobile phone.
- Reimbursement for applicable work expenses is governed by the individual letter of offer and company policy.
