We are seeking a passionate and talented Director for our High School Musical 2 JR youth production. The ideal candidate will have a background in performance and experience working with youth ages 11-17. Rehearsals will run Jan 21st-May 9th, Thursdays 6:30-9pm and Sundays 2:30-5:30pm at Rockway P.S. in Kitchener. Our Show Week is May 10th-15th, 2027 at Cambridge Arts Theatre.

Please Note: This position may require hours beyond the expected 5.5-8 hour range per week during Show Week, including required Dress Rehearsals Mon, May 10th and Tues, May 12th from 5-9pm.

Responsibilities

- Working with members of the creative team to create a positive learning environment while maintaining control of actors.
- Leading communication, in conjunction with the Stage Manager, with parents/guardians as needed regarding expectations, absences, behaviour issues, and so forth.
- Planning educational rehearsals, creating a rehearsal schedule so that all aspects of the show are covered.
- Managing an audition process and working with the creative team to cast all participants.
- Working with the creative team to carry out rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and bring the dramatic performance to completion on the stage.

This position will work closely with a creative team (Music Director, Stage Manager, Choreographer, Volunteers) and the General Manager.

Qualifications

- Experience as a Director (work, volunteer, community theatre, through school, etc)
- Ability to educate and inspire children and youth of diverse backgrounds
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team
- Proficient in written communication for program planning
- First Aid/CPR Training or willingness to complete
- Vulnerable Sector Check, applicants must be 18+
