Civil Drafter – Machine Control

We’re looking for a Civil Drafter with machine control experience to join our survey and technical team. Reporting to the Survey Manager, you’ll turn design data into field-ready models, run volumes, and build the drawings that keep our crews and estimates accurate.

What you’ll do

- Build and check 3D surfaces, alignments and corridors in Civil 3D from engineer-issued designs (CAD, PDF, LandXML, DXF)
- Create and manage Trimble machine control files for dozers, excavators and graders, and push them to the field
- Run cut/fill and stockpile volumes for estimates, progress billing and final quantities
- Prepare interim and working designs (temporary roads, ditches, laydowns, phased grades) when the IFC design isn’t ready or field conditions change
- Process survey and drone data (topos, as-builts, progress surveys) in Trimble Business Center (TBC)
- Draft as-builts, redlines, grading plans, exhibits and quantity sketches
- Support estimators with takeoffs and surfaces during bids
- Keep project data organized, version-controlled and backed up
- Work with PMs, superintendents, operators and survey crews to fix data issues fast
- Get to site as needed to verify data,

What you bring

- 2+ years in civil drafting, survey or machine control, ideally in earthworks or heavy civil
- Strong in AutoCAD and Civil 3D: surfaces, alignments, profiles, corridors, grading
- Hands-on with Trimble Business Center and Trimble machine control (Earthworks/GCS900, Siteworks, WorksManager)
- Comfortable calculating volumes and checking quantities against design
- Understands earthworks construction: stripping, cut/fill, subgrade, gravels, ditches and drainage
- Able to read engineering drawings and specs, and spot design gaps or errors
- Civil or Survey Engineering Technology diploma, or equivalent experience
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence

Assets

- Drone mapping and processing (Pix4D, DJI Terra, Propeller, or similar)
- Advanced RPAS (drone) pilot certificate
- GNSS rover and data collector experience
- Leica or Topcon machine control experience

Job details

- Full-time, mainly office-based with regular site visits
- Monday to Friday; overtime and weekends as needed during peak season
- Must follow all safety requirements and wear PPE on site
- Must be able to work outdoors in all weather when on site
