Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20–$28 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications

About Aluminar Systems
Aluminar Systems Inc. is a Canadian-owned company with over 40 years of experience designing and fabricating custom modular aluminum systems for architectural, healthcare, laboratory, research, and cleanroom applications.
We are a small, specialized fabrication shop focused on quality workmanship, practical problem-solving, and custom-built solutions. Our team works closely together, and we value people who take ownership of their work, share their knowledge, and help keep projects moving.
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced, hands-on fabricator to take on a lead role within our shop.
This position is best suited to someone who understands fabrication, can interpret technical drawings, thinks ahead, and takes pride in producing accurate, high-quality work. Alongside their own fabrication responsibilities, the Shop Lead Hand helps organize daily shop activities, supports other team members, and works with the project manager to ensure jobs are completed safely, efficiently, and to the required standard.
This is a working lead-hand position, not a full-time supervisory or office role. The successful candidate will spend most of their time on the shop floor, leading by example and helping the team get the work done.
Key Responsibilities
Fabrication and Quality
- Fabricate and assemble custom aluminum framing systems, enclosures, and related architectural components.
- Interpret shop drawings, measurements, and project requirements to determine how components should be fabricated and assembled.
- Use hand tools, power tools, measuring equipment, and relevant shop machinery safely and effectively.
- Check dimensions, fit, finish, and overall workmanship to ensure products meet project requirements.
- Identify fabrication challenges, resolve practical problems, and raise issues when additional direction is required.
- Help establish and maintain consistent fabrication methods and quality standards.
Shop Coordination and Team Support
- Help organize daily shop activities and prioritize work in consultation with the project manager.
- Guide, instruct, and support shop hands as needed, demonstrating proper fabrication techniques and protected work practices.
- Monitor job progress and help ensure materials, tools, and information are available when needed.
- Maintain awareness of production priorities, deadlines, and potential bottlenecks.
- Assist with inventory tracking, material organization, and shop supplies.
- Keep the shop clean, organized, and operating safely.
- Identify practical improvements to workflow, organization, and fabrication processes.
Drawings, Documentation, and Communication
- Review shop drawings and project information for clarity, accuracy, and completeness before fabrication.
- Assist with basic drafting or drawing revisions using appropriate software where required.
- Communicate fabrication progress, material requirements, and potential issues to the project manager.
- Complete relevant production, inventory, timesheet, and safety records.
- Participate in project or shop meetings as needed.
What We're Looking For
- Solid experience in a metal, aluminum, glass, architectural, or related fabrication environment.
- Strong hands-on fabrication and assembly skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, dimensions, and measurements accurately.
- Good understanding of fabrication methods, material handling, tools, and shop safety.
- Ability to plan work, solve problems, and identify potential issues before they become larger problems.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
- Good communication skills and the ability to guide others respectfully and effectively.
- Reliable, organized, self-motivated, and comfortable taking responsibility for work.
- Able to balance personal fabrication duties with helping coordinate the work of others.
- Comfortable using computers and digital devices for drawings, documentation, and shop records.
The following experience would be an asset:
- Previous experience with aluminum or metal fabrication, glazing, storefronts, curtain walls, doors, windows, or architectural framing systems.
- Experience guiding or training other fabricators in a small shop environment.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, BIM, or other technical drafting software.
- Experience with inventory management, production planning, or fabrication documentation.
- Valid First Aid/CPR training and relevant health and safety certifications.
- A valid glazier's licence, where applicable.
We value practical experience, sound judgment, and leadership by example. The right person does not need to come from a large manufacturing operation but should be confident in their fabrication skills and capable of helping a small team work effectively.
A valid driver's licence and reliable transportation are preferred.
Why Join Aluminar Systems?
- Work in a small, specialized fabrication shop where your skills and contributions have a direct impact.
- Take an active role in building custom architectural aluminum products.
- Work closely with the project manager and shop team, with the prospect to influence how work is organized and completed.
- Help develop the capabilities of the team through hands-on guidance and knowledge-sharing.
- Enjoy a collaborative work environment that values craftsmanship, initiative, and practical problem-solving.

Please submit your resume and a brief introduction outlining your fabrication experience, relevant technical skills, and experience helping organize work or support other team members.
