Optimil Machinery is a manufacturer of sawmill equipment and other related machinery. We are a family-run company and have been in business for over 40 years. We manufacture a wide variety of steel and aluminum parts. Our facility has a variety of different machine centres, all engaged in making high speed processing equipment for the forest industry.

We are looking for a manual lathe operator to join our manufacturing team.

Duties:

- set up and operate manual lathes to machine metal components to specified dimensions and tolerances ( including 0.001 inch)

- read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints and machining specifications

- select appropriate cutting tools, tooling and work holding methods for each job

- perform turning, facing, boring, threading, grooving and other machining operations as required

- set up and use fixed and travelling steady rests to support long or slender workpieces during machining

- measure and inspect finished components using precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, vernier calipers and bore gauges

- make accurate tooling and machine adjustments to ensure components meet drawing specifications





- carry out routine machine cleaning and basic maintenance; keep an organized workspace

- follow all company safety policies and procedures

- work with other machinists and shop personnel to meet production schedules and delivery deadlines

Requirements:

- Red Seal Machinist Certification preferred

- minimum 5 years experience operating manual lathes in a machine shop environment

- strong understanding of machining practices, cutting tools, speeds, feeds and materials

- proven ability to hold tight machining tolerances of 0.001 inch

- strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work

- ability to work independently as well as be part of a team

- excellent communication and organizational skills

- physically fit and able to lift and safely handle up to 40 lbs (18 kg)

Day shift: 7:00am to 3:30 pm
