Horne Conveyance Safety

Oro-Medonte

Horne Conveyance Safety (HCS) is looking for an experienced, mechanically skilled Working Shop Lead to join our team in Oro-Medonte, Ontario.

We specialize in safety equipment for the mining industry, helping protect the people who work underground. Our commitment is simple: Keeping miners safe!

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on mechanical work but also has the organizational and leadership skills to keep a small, busy workshop running efficiently.

You will work alongside and supervise one other workshop employee while coordinating daily jobs, managing inventory, and ensuring materials and components are available when needed.

This is a working leadership position, not a desk job. We need someone who leads by example, takes ownership, and enjoys solving practical problems.

What You'll Be Doing

Hands-On Workshop Operations

- Perform mechanical assembly, repairs, rebuilds, and other workshop activities.
- Organize and prioritize daily and weekly jobs to meet production deadlines.
- Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to our quality standards.
- Read and interpret technical drawings and assembly instructions.
- Identify and resolve mechanical and production issues.

Inventory & Materials Coordination

- Maintain accurate inventory records of parts, materials, and finished products.
- Monitor stock levels and identify upcoming material requirements.
- Work closely with our purchaser to ensure materials and components are ordered and received on time.
- Track incoming and outgoing materials and inventory movements.
- Identify potential shortages early to prevent production delays.
- Maintain an organized and efficient workshop and storage area.

Team Leadership

- Provide day-to-day direction and support to one workshop employee.
- Coordinate workloads and ensure priorities are clearly communicated.
- Lead by example in workmanship, safety, and accountability.
- Keep management informed of progress, challenges, and material requirements.

What We're Looking For

- Strong hands-on mechanical experience in a workshop, manufacturing, assembly, maintenance, or similar environment.
- Familiarity with industrial electrical wiring, sensors, solenoids and control panels.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and work with mechanical components.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Experience with inventory tracking, stock control, and materials coordination.
- Comfortable using computers and maintaining accurate records.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- A practical, proactive attitude and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of results.
- Experience supervising or mentoring others is an asset.

Experience with hydraulic systems, mechanical equipment assembly, or industrial machinery would be an advantage.

Previous mining industry experience is not required. We value practical mechanical ability, reliability, and a willingness to learn.

What HCS Offers

- Competitive pay of $70,000 - $79,000 annually, depending on experience.
- Extended health (medical), dental,

and vision advantages.
- Paid vacation and time off.
- Permanent, full-time employment.
- A small, supportive team environment.
- The opportunity to take ownership of workshop operations.
- Meaningful work supporting specialized safety equipment used in the mining industry.
- Opportunities to develop your skills and grow with our business.

Why Join HCS?

At Horne Conveyance Safety, we are proud of the equipment we manufacture and the important role it plays in protecting miners.

As a small, specialized company, every team member makes a difference. We value people who take initiative, care about quality, and work together to get the job done.

If you are a capable mechanical tradesperson who enjoys being hands-on while taking responsibility for running a workshop, we would love to hear from you.
