Job Overview
We are looking for a proactive and results-driven Bid Specialist to identify new construction project opportunities, generate qualified leads, connect with potential clients, and manage the bidding process to secure new contracts. The ideal candidate will research construction projects, identify general contractors, builders, developers, and project owners, and prepare and submit competitive bids and proposals.
The primary objective is to generate a consistent pipeline of construction leads and convert those opportunities into awarded projects.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead Generation & Project Research
- Identify upcoming and active construction projects through online tender portals, construction bidding platforms, contractor directories, and other industry sources.
- Generate leads for commercial, residential, multi-family, and multi-residential construction projects.
- Research general contractors, builders, developers, property owners, and procurement teams seeking subcontractors.
- Find projects requiring **insulation, drywall installation, steel stud framing, and acoustic ceiling installation**.
- Identify project locations, bid deadlines, estimated scopes of work, and relevant decision-makers.
- Build and maintain a database of qualified leads and potential clients.
2. Bid & Tender Management
- Monitor tender invitations, requests for quotations (RFQs), requests for proposals (RFPs), and subcontracting opportunities.
- Review project drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and tender requirements.
- Coordinate with the estimating team to obtain quantities, pricing, labour costs, and material costs.
- Prepare bid documents, quotations, proposals, and supporting documentation.
- Submit bids within deadlines and ensure compliance with client requirements.
- Track submitted bids, follow up with clients, and maintain records of bid outcomes.
3. Client Outreach & Business Development
- Contact general contractors, construction companies, developers, and project managers through email, telephone, LinkedIn, and other business channels.
- Introduce the company’s subcontracting services and establish relationships with potential clients.
- Request invitations to bid and opportunities to quote on upcoming projects.
- Follow up on quotations, negotiate where appropriate, and maintain ongoing communication with prospective clients.
- Develop long-term relationships that lead to repeat work and subcontracting agreements.
4. Reporting & Pipeline Management
- Maintain a lead-generation tracker and bid register.
- Record project names, locations, client details, bid values, deadlines, and follow-up dates.
- Provide regular reports on new leads, bids submitted, client responses, and contracts awarded.
- Track conversion rates and identify effective lead-generation channels.
- Use spreadsheets or CRM software to manage leads and bidding activities.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Experience in bid management, construction lead generation, tendering, sales, or business development.
- Understanding of construction projects, subcontracting, and the bidding process.
- Strong online research, prospecting, and client communication skills.
- Ability to identify genuine project opportunities rather than collecting unqualified leads.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, email, and CRM tools.
- Good written and verbal English communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple opportunities and meet strict bid deadlines.
- Self-motivated, organised, and target-oriented.
Preferred Experience
- Experience working with Canadian construction companies and subcontractors.
- Familiarity with construction tender platforms, bid boards, and public procurement portals.
- Existing knowledge of general contractors, multi-residential developments, and commercial construction.
- Experience with insulation, drywall, steel stud framing, or acoustic ceiling subcontracting.
Performance Expectations (KPIs)
- Number of qualified construction project leads generated.
- Number of new general contractors and prospective clients contacted.
- Number of invitations to bid secured.
- Number and value of bids submitted.
- Percentage of bids converted into awarded contracts.
- Value of new business opportunities and contracts generated.
- Consistency of follow-ups and accuracy of reporting.
Primary Goal
Generate a steady pipeline of qualified construction projects, secure invitations to bid, submit competitive proposals, and help the company win profitable subcontracting contracts through consistent lead generation and professional client engagement.
The role should be measured primarily on qualified leads, invitations to bid, and contracts won, rather than simply the number of emails sent or contacts collected.
