Part-Time / Casual — Ophthalmology Surgical Centre

Clearview Eye Centre is seeking a skilled and dependable part-time/casual Operating Room Nurse to support our private ophthalmology surgical centre. This position is best suited for an experienced OR nurse who is comfortable working in a focused surgical environment and has mandatory ophthalmology operating room experience .

Position Details

Position : Operating Room Nurse Employment Type : Part time / Casual Schedule : Approximately 3-4 surgical days per month Shift Length : Approximately 8 hours per day Typical Surgical Days : Usually Wednesday or Thursday, though other weekdays may occur Scheduling : Surgical dates are generally scheduled 3 months in advance to allow staff to coordinate with other work commitments

Responsibilities

- The Operating Room Nurse will support safe, efficient, and patient-focused surgical care within our ophthalmology surgical centre.

Responsibilities may include:

- Providing perioperative nursing care before, during, and after ophthalmology procedures
- Assisting with surgical room preparation and case setup
- Scrubbing and/or circulating for ophthalmology surgical cases, depending on experience and clinic need
- Supporting patient admission, pre-operative checks, surgical safety checklists, and post-operative care
- Ensuring proper documentation in accordance with clinic policy and accreditation standards
- Preparing medications, supplies, equipment, and surgical instruments as required




- Maintaining sterile technique and infection prevention standards
- Monitoring patient safety, comfort, and readiness throughout the surgical experience
- Communicating clearly with surgeons, nurses, MDRT staff, coordinators, and patients
- Supporting efficient turnover between cases while maintaining safety and quality standards
- Identifying and escalating patient care concerns appropriately

Qualifications

Required:

- Active registration and good standing as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse , depending on clinic scope and role requirements

- Ophthalmology operating room experience is mandatory :

- Current BLS and ACLS certification

- Robust knowledge of sterile technique and perioperative nursing standards

- Ability to work confidently in a surgical environment

- Excellent judgment, communication, and patient care skills

- Reliable availability for pre-scheduled surgical dates

Preferred:

- Experience with cataract surgery, retina, oculoplastics, or ophthalmic day surgery
- Experience in a private surgical centre, non-hospital surgical facility, or ambulatory surgery environment
- Ability to scrub and circulate
- Familiarity with ophthalmic surgical equipment, lenses, supplies, and microsurgical workflow
- Comfort working in a small, specialized surgical team

Job Types : Part-time, Casual

Pay: $35.00-$50.00 per hour

Expected hours: 8.0 - 16.0 per week
