Overview: MST (Atlantic) Shipping Management ULC based in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, provides crude oil marine transportation services and operates and manages shuttle tankers on the East Coast of Canada.
MST (Atlantic) Shipping Management ULC is accepting applications for temporary Third Engineer work starting in November 2026.
Position: Third Engineer
Rotation: Five weeks on/off
Status: Temporary, with the possibility of permanent employment
Position Summary
The Third Engineer plans and supervises preventive maintenance and repairs to the vessel’s machinery, equipment and systems, and carries out engine room watchkeeping duties.
Mandatory Qualifications and Experience
- Transport Canada Fourth-Class Engineer certification
- Transport Canada Tanker Advanced Safety (Oil) endorsement preferred, basic required
- Transport Canada STCW Basic Safety, Survival Craft other than Fast Rescue Boats, and Advanced Fire Fighting certification
- Transport Canada STCW Ship Personnel with Designated Security Duties certification
- Valid, unrestricted Transport Canada Marine Medical Certificate
- Valid passport
- Successful completion of a pre-employment physical, drug and alcohol screening, and background checks
Responsibilities:
- Perform engine room watches as directed by the Chief Engineer.
- Ensure the safe, efficient and economical operation of vessel machinery and equipment.
- Maintain familiarity with all onboard firefighting and lifesaving equipment and installations.
- Monitor the condition of machinery and carry out maintenance in accordance with the job description.
- Review and sign off the engine room logbook.
- Maintain and update the planned maintenance system in accordance with Company policies.
- Supervise and train Oilers, Wipers and other engine room personnel in watchkeeping, operations and maintenance duties.
- Carry out other duties as directed by the Chief Engineer.
