Plumber / Hotel Maintenance

Slave Lake Inn & Conference Centre – Slave Lake, Alberta

We are seeking a skilled and dependable Plumber / Maintenance Person to join our hotel maintenance team.

The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical knowledge with experience in commercial plumbing and boiler systems. This is a hands-on position responsible for helping maintain the hotel's plumbing, heating, mechanical, and general building systems while working closely with our maintenance and houseperson team to provide a safe and comfortable environment for our guests and employees.

Responsibilities

- Install, repair, troubleshoot, and maintain plumbing systems throughout the hotel.
- Monitor, inspect, troubleshoot, and assist with the maintenance of commercial boiler and heating systems within the individual's qualifications and certification.
- Repair faucets, toilets, sinks, drains, piping, valves, and other plumbing fixtures.
- Diagnose leaks, drainage problems, water pressure issues, and other plumbing concerns.
- Perform preventative maintenance and regular inspections of plumbing and mechanical systems.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, manuals, and building plans.
- Assemble and install pipes, fittings, fixtures, and related equipment using appropriate hand and power tools.
- Identify potential problems before they result in equipment failure, flooding, or damage to guest rooms and hotel facilities.
- Assist with general hotel maintenance and repairs when required.
- Work closely with other maintenance employees and housepersons as part of a team.
- Assist housepersons and other departments when required to ensure the hotel continues to operate safely and efficiently.
- Work cooperatively with housekeeping, front desk, food and beverage, and management.
- Respond promptly to maintenance concerns affecting guest rooms or hotel operations.
- Help identify and correct potential Health & Safety hazards throughout the property.




- Participate in maintaining a safe workplace for employees, guests, contractors, and visitors.
- Report hazards, unsafe conditions, equipment concerns, and required repairs immediately.
- Assist with preventative maintenance and safety inspections throughout the hotel.
- Maintain tools, equipment, mechanical rooms, maintenance areas, and work areas in a clean, protected, and organized condition.
- Maintain accurate records of preventative maintenance, repairs, inspections, and parts required.
- Follow all workplace Health & Safety policies and procedures.
- Communicate professionally with guests and employees when completing work in occupied areas.

Qualifications

- Previous experience as a Plumber, Maintenance Plumber, or similar position preferred.
- Journeyperson Plumber certification/Red Seal preferred.
- Experience with commercial plumbing systems strongly preferred.
- Boiler and commercial heating system experience is a strong asset.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting abilities.
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance practices.
- Ability to read plumbing diagrams, blueprints, and equipment manuals.
- Comfortable using hand and power tools safely.
- Ability and willingness to perform general hotel maintenance duties in addition to plumbing responsibilities.
- Strong team player who is willing to work alongside housepersons, maintenance staff, and other departments when needed.
- Strong awareness of workplace Health & Safety and the ability to recognize and report potential hazards.




- Ability to work independently and prioritize repairs while also working effectively as part of a team.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
- Valid driver's licence preferred.
- Must understand when work requires a licensed or otherwise qualified tradesperson and work within applicable certification requirements.

Hotel Environment

This position is ideal for someone who understands that hotel maintenance involves more than completing individual repairs. Preventative maintenance, teamwork, and Health & Safety are extremely significant to our operation.

Everyone on our maintenance and houseperson team is expected to work together. Although plumbing and mechanical maintenance will be an important part of this position, the successful applicant must be willing to assist with other maintenance and houseperson responsibilities when required.

We want someone who notices problems, reports concerns, and takes initiative to help keep the entire property safe, clean, well maintained, and operating efficiently.

The successful candidate must be comfortable working throughout a hotel environment, including guest rooms, kitchens, restaurant and banquet areas, laundry facilities, mechanical rooms, public areas, and exterior areas.
