You will play a vital role in the preparation of accounting and financial analysis reports as well as contribute to the annual Public Accounts process for the ministry.

About the job

As an integral part of the Accounting and Reporting Unit, you will:

- Provide accounting and financial reporting advice to ministry program areas and business partners to support decision-making and compliance in accordance with Public Sector Accounting Standards and Ontario Public Service (OPS) accounting policies and guidelines.
- Research and analyze accounting and financial reporting issues, identify risks and impacts, and develop practical recommendations
- coordinate, oversee, and monitor financial policies, tools, systems and procedures that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the ministry's financial reporting.
- contribute to the preparation of Public Accounts and other financial reports in accordance with established requirements and timelines.
- develop briefing materials, reports, presentations, and other financial analysis for management and senior leadership.
- develop and deliver training material to ministry clients regarding ministry and central agency accounting/reporting requirements.
- build strong relationships with clients and provide guidance on accounting and financial reporting matters
- participate in projects and initiatives aimed at improving financial reporting processes and controls.

What you bring to the team

Technical knowledge





You have demonstrated knowledge and experience of:

- accounting and financial reporting principles, policies and practices, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS), and the ability to interpret and apply accounting policies, directives, and guidelines
- account analysis, reconciliations, and month-end and year-end financial reporting processes
- capital asset accounting and reporting covering all aspects of assets including capitalization, amortization, disposals, and related accounting considerations
- working with large-scale financial management systems (e.g., Integrated Financial Information System (IFIS)) and business intelligence tools to analyze data, identify reporting requirements, and produce accurate financial information for management and central agencies

- apply Public Sector Accounting Standards to assess and support financial planning, reporting, and ministry financial management

- assess data quality, identify risks and anomalies, and resolve issues to maintain the accuracy and integrity of financial information
- use sound judgement to identify root causes, evaluate options, and recommend practical solutions to complex financial and accounting issues

- build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including supporting the Office of the Auditor General during audits and for the annual Public Accounts
