Level 2 AML Analyst, Enhanced Due DiligenceContract, Remote (Canada)

Location: Remote. You must live and work in Canada for the full duration of the contract

Term: 3-month contract, with possible extension or other assignments

Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, Toronto, Ontario business time zone.

Start date: To be confirmed. Set by the client project.

Eligibility to work in Canada: Proof that you can work in Canada (citizenship, permanent residency, a valid work permit, or other valid authorization).

About the roleBrains Capital supports Canadian FINTRAC reporting entities with their anti-money laundering and anti-terrorist financing (AML/ATF) obligations. We are looking for a Level 2 Analyst to complete enhanced due diligence (EDD) reviews on high-risk entities and escalated files for several credit union clients. Entities include corporations, partnerships, trusts, and other business and organization members.

Level 1 analysts complete standard reviews. Your role is to take the files they escalate, investigate them in depth, and recommend what the credit union should do next.

What you will do• Complete EDD reviews on high-risk entities, including the individuals who own, control, or act for them, such as those flagged as politically exposed persons (PEPs), heads of international organizations (HIOs), and their family members and close associates.

- Review escalated alerts and files from Level 1 analysts.
- Confirm beneficial ownership and control structures for business and entity members.
- Assess the sources of funds and wealth, and compare actual account activity to the member's expected activity.
- Run adverse media, sanctions, and listed person screening, and document the results.

- Recommend a risk rating and a decision: keep the relationship as is, apply added controls, or exit.
- Identify reasonable grounds to suspect, and draft Suspicious Transaction Report (STR) narratives for the Compliance Officer (CO) to review and file.
- Keep complete, audit-ready records of each review, following the client's procedures and FINTRAC requirements.
- Flag recurring issues, gaps, or quality concerns to the engagement lead.

Qualifications• A university degree or a college diploma

- At least 3 years of hands-on AML/ATF experience at a Canadian reporting entity, including at least 2 years doing EDD or financial crime investigations.
- Current working knowledge of the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act (PCMLTFA), its regulations, and FINTRAC guidance.
- Experience writing STR narratives.
- Experience with business and entity members, including corporate structures and the most recent beneficial ownership regulatory changes.
- Transparent, concise English writing. Your files must stand up to audit and regulatory review.
- Ability to work on your own and meet daily and weekly file targets in a remote setting.
- Willingness to complete a criminal record check and any additional screening the client requires.

Assets• Experience at a credit union, caisse, or other provincially regulated financial institution.

- CAMS, CAMLP, CFCE or a similar AML certification.
- Experience with screening and investigation tools such as World-Check, LexisNexis, Dow Jones, Verafin, Navaera or similar as well as Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Nice to have: French, spoken and written. Bilingual analysts are sometimes needed for Quebec and New Brunswick clients.

Working conditions• You must work from Canada. Client data cannot be accessed from outside the country.
- You must have a personal cellular phone,
- You must have access to a secure, private home workspace and reliable high-speed internet (working in a public setting such as a library, café or any other public or shared environment is not allowed),
- Paid training period: details will be confirmed by client,
- The extension depends on client project scope, client timelines, and your performance.

Engagement conditionsThis contract depends on a Brains Capital client signing a project. The client also sets the project timelines and start date, so the start date and term in this posting may change. If the client project does not go ahead, the contract will not start. If the client ends or pauses the project early, the contract will end or pause too.

You will be hired and onboarded as an independent contractor by Brains Capital, not by the client. Brains Capital manages your contract, rate, and invoicing.

- The client may require its own final vetting and selection process before you start. This can include interviews, reference checks, background screening, or other checks the client sets. Your placement on the project depends on the client’s approval.
