About Us
Western Rockies IT is a growing managed service provider based in Edmonton and Calgary, Alberta. We support businesses across Western Canada — in sectors including construction, transportation, education, trades, and professional services — delivering managed IT support, infrastructure projects, and increasingly, AI-powered business automation. We align IT strategy with business needs and take a business-first approach to everything we do.
We're a tight-knit team that takes the work seriously and has a good time doing it.
This role is based out of our Edmonton office. You'll work with clients on-site and remotely, with occasional remote support for our Calgary clients.
The Role
We're looking for an Intermediate IT Technician to join our Edmonton team. You'll be a core part of our managed services support desk — handling day-to-day tickets, supporting clients remotely and on-site, and contributing to infrastructure and network projects as your skills develop.
This is a hands-on role. You'll be in the thick of it — troubleshooting real problems for real businesses, owning your ticket queue, and growing with a team doing interesting work across diverse client environments.
What You'll Be Doing
- Day-to-day managed services support — resolving tickets across our client base, remotely and on-site in Edmonton
- Troubleshooting workstations, servers, networking equipment, and Microsoft 365 environments
- Configuring and supporting networking hardware including Cisco, UniFi, WatchGuard, and Proofpoint
- Supporting VPN, firewall, and security configurations using best practices
- Working within our RMM and PSA platforms — Kaseya tools, Datto RMM, Autotask — to manage and document your work
- Supporting infrastructure builds and network deployments alongside our senior techs
- Triaging and resolving escalated support cases
- Providing occasional remote support to Calgary-based clients
- Keeping clients informed and feeling looked after throughout every interaction
What We're Looking For
- Two or more years of experience in a managed services or IT support environment
- Solid troubleshooting skills across Windows workstations and servers, Microsoft 365, and common business applications
- Hands-on experience with networking fundamentals — DNS, DHCP, VLANs, firewalls, and VPN
- Experience with Fortinet, Cisco, UniFi, or WatchGuard technologies is a strong asset
- Experience with the Kaseya suite — Datto RMM, Autotask PSA, or IT Glue — is a strong asset
- Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal — you'll be the face of WRIT to a lot of our clients
- Ability to translate technical issues into plain language for non-technical people
- Comfortable working on-site and travelling locally to client locations
- Self-directed and comfortable managing your own workload without hand-holding
Preferred Qualifications
- One to two year diploma from NAIT, SAIT, or similar program
- Wireless deployment and configuration experience
- Familiarity with cybersecurity platforms, and backup solutions
- Understanding of business operations and how IT supports them
What We Offer
- Competitive salary commensurate with experience
- Full time permanent position with benefits
- A collaborative, no-silos team that invests in your growth
- Exposure to infrastructure projects, multiple industries, and emerging AI automation work as the practice grows
- An Edmonton based team that actually likes each other!
