Required Qualifications
This is a professional interior design position.
Applicants must have
- A degree or diploma specifically in Interior Design.
- Approximately 5+ years of professional interior design experience in a design firm or interior design practice.
- Strong AutoCAD skills.
- Experience developing interior design projects through design development and construction documentation.
- Experience selecting and specifying interior finishes, materials, furniture, art, and accessories.
- Experience working directly with clients, contractors, suppliers, and trades.
- A valid driver’s licence and reliable access to a vehicle.
- The ability to work primarily from our Toronto studio and travel to project sites throughout the GTA and surrounding areas.
- A portfolio demonstrating professional interior design work.
ARIDO membership or progress toward ARIDO registration is an asset. About the Role The Wiklém Group is looking for an experienced Intermediate Designer who is ready for greater project ownership and direct involvement with clients, contractors, budgets, procurement, and construction.
We are an award-winning Toronto-based Interior Design and Design+BUILD firm specializing in condominium common-area refurbishment throughout the GTA. Our projects range from targeted upgrades to major multi-million-dollar renovations.
Our designers stay involved throughout the full project — from early concepts, finishes, and client presentations through documentation, budgeting, procurement, construction, site coordination, and final installation.
This role is ideal for someone who has developed a strong foundation in professional interior design and is ready to take the next step toward leading projects.
What You’ll Do
- Develop interior design concepts and carry them through design development and implementation.
- Prepare finish schemes, material selections, presentation boards, and client presentations.
- Work directly with clients to understand design objectives,
priorities, budgets, and site requirements.
- Prepare and coordinate drawings, specifications, finish schedules, and other project documentation.
- Specify furniture, art, accessories, finishes, and materials.
- Prepare specifications, budgets, and purchasing documentation and coordinate procurement, delivery, installation, and styling.
- Work with contractors, trades, suppliers, architects, engineers, and other consultants.
- Participate in project budgeting, pricing reviews, tendering, bid analysis, and value engineering.
- Attend client, contractor, and site meetings and assist in resolving design, material, installation, and construction issues.
- Review construction progress, participate in deficiency walkthroughs, and help bring projects through final completion.
- Provide direction and support to junior designers as your responsibilities grow.
What We’re Looking For You are first and foremost an interior designer.
You have strong design instincts, understand materials and finishes, can produce and coordinate professional documentation, and are comfortable seeing your work carried through into construction.
You are also ready for more responsibility. You want greater client exposure, more involvement in project decisions, and the opportunity to understand the budget and construction implications of your designs.
You are organized, resourceful, collaborative, and willing to make decisions within your area of responsibility rather than waiting for every answer to come from someone more senior.
Experience in condominium, multifamily residential, hospitality,
retirement/seniors living, or Design+BUILD is particularly relevant.
Direct condominium-refurbishment experience is welcome but not required.
About The Wiklém Group The Wiklém Group is an award-winning Toronto-based Interior Design and Design+BUILD firm with more than 30 years of experience transforming condominium common areas.
Through Wiklém Design inc. and Wiklém Design+BUILD inc., our designers remain closely involved from the first design conversation through construction and final delivery.
We are a small, collaborative studio where designers have direct exposure to clients, materials, contractors, budgets, procurement, and construction — and the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility as they develop.
What We Offer
- Group health benefits.
- Paid professional development and training.
- Reimbursement of approved business and travel expenses.
- Meaningful project ownership and client exposure.
- Direct involvement with materials, procurement, contractors, and construction.
- Opportunity to mentor junior designers.
- Opportunity to develop into project leadership and increasingly senior design roles.
- A collaborative Toronto studio environment.
Where You’ll Work This is primarily an in-office position. Our materials library, samples, and day-to-day design collaboration are based in our Toronto studio.
Regular project site visits throughout the GTA and surrounding areas are an important part of the role.
We offer flexibility for occasional work-from-home days when practical.
To Apply
Please submit your résumé and portfolio, or a link to your online portfolio.
Your portfolio should demonstrate skilled interior design work and clearly show your own contribution to concept development, finishes and materials, documentation, furniture and accessory selection, and completed projects.
Pay: $70,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
