Klo Lab is a Vancouver-based design and CNC fabrication studio creating custom furniture, retail displays, pegboards, flat-pack fixtures, and commercial installations.

We are looking for a design-minded, organized student to join our small team as a Junior Rhino Designer & Studio Assistant. This is primarily a Rhino and design-support role for someone interested in furniture, product design, interiors, architecture, or digital fabrication.

You will support our design workflow by preparing client proofs, making revisions to existing Rhino files, organizing project files, creating simple renders, and helping prepare production-ready documentation. You will also provide occasional hands-on shop support during busy production periods.

Student eligibility requirement

This position is funded through the Venture for Canada Internship Program. Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

- Be currently enrolled, either full-time or part-time, in a Canadian college or university program
- Remain enrolled for at least the first 30 days of employment
- Be eligible to work in Canada as a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or refugee

International students and recent graduates are not eligible for this funded position. Please apply only if you meet these requirements.

Schedule

This role is expected to be approximately 20–27 hours per week, with Monday to Thursday.

Full availability for a three-week period in late November/early December is strongly preferred, as the successful candidate will provide key design support while our lead designer is away.

Responsibilities

- Design and Rhino support
- Prepare and revise client design proofs using established templates

- Make basic-to-intermediate revisions to existing Rhino models and layouts
- Organize project folders, reference drawings, material notes, and production files
- Create simple renders and presentation visuals for client review
- Help prepare production documentation, cut lists, and project notes
- Check files for accuracy, dimensions, and completeness before internal review
- Support the development and organization of standard product files and templates
- Learn how Rhino files are prepared for CNC fabrication and shop production
- Studio and production support
- Assist with sanding, finishing, assembly, packing, and quality control when needed
- Help prepare projects for pickup, delivery, or installation
- Assist with material organization, hardware sorting, inventory, and general studio upkeep
- Provide an additional set of hands to the shop team during busy production periods

What we’re looking for

- A current post-secondary student with interest in product design, furniture, interiors, architecture, digital fabrication, or a related field
- Working knowledge of Rhino, or a strong foundation in another 3D modelling program and the ability to learn Rhino quickly
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and file-management habits
- Comfortable following existing design standards, templates, and instructions
- Able to work independently on defined tasks while asking questions when something is unclear

- Comfortable helping with hands-on shop work when required
- A portfolio, school projects, or examples of Rhino, 3D modelling, drafting, rendering, design, or built work
- Experience with Illustrator, Photoshop, V-Ray, KeyShot, Fusion 360, Aspire, or similar software is an asset, but not required

Important to know This is a junior design-support position. You will work with established templates, product systems, and guidance from our team. You will not be expected to independently solve complex custom furniture design, joinery, CNC programming, or final production decisions at the start.

The right candidate will gain practical experience in how custom furniture and retail fixtures are designed, documented, prepared for fabrication, and brought to completion in a working studio.
