About The Media Firm.
The Media Firm. is a Toronto-based content marketing agency specializing in high-performing content for premium brands across the Greater Toronto Area: real estate professionals, builders, and design-focused brands.
In addition to client work, we operate a growing real estate media platform with strong audience reach (100k+ followers) across Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. This platform runs its own content pipeline (submissions, property content, brand partnerships) on the same operational standard we bring to every client account.
Role Overview
We’re looking for a lead videographer with a creative director’s eye and a strategist’s instincts. You own the shot, the story, and the final cut, and you bring direction and ideas that make our content perform. We set the overall strategy and client relationships. You shape how it comes to life, recommend the formats that will win, and help build our brands along the way.
About 70% of the work is real estate (luxury listings, agents, and personal brand content) and about 30% is construction (custom builds, project progress, and builder brands). Some shoots are cinematic. Others are fast, social-first, UGC-style content, vlogs, or video podcasts. You need to be open-minded about format and fully committed to the result.
We work AI-first. You’ll use AI tools to plan, research, script, and edit faster, so more of your time goes into the creative calls only a person can make.
This is a player-coach role that starts hands-on. You’ll be our lead creative on set from day one, and as we bring on more videographers and editors, you’ll help onboard them, set the standard, and lead the work. Hours start project-based, up to 15 per week, scheduled around shoots, which can include some evenings and weekends. As trust and volume grow, so do the hours, and our goal is to make this full-time with the right person.
Key Responsibilities
Production
- Shoot and edit video and photo for real estate and construction clients across the GTA
- Own each shoot from plan to delivery: shot list, angles, pacing, music, and final cut
- Move between cinematic production and fast UGC-style content, matching the format to the goal
- Produce personal brand content for clients, including BTS, vlogs, and video podcasts
- Capture construction progress and builder stories in a way that makes the craftsmanship visible
Creative Direction & Strategy
- Direct shoots and on-camera talent so every piece has a clear hook, story, and payoff
- Track what’s working across Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts, and recommend the viral formats we should adapt for each client
- Bring creative recommendations to every brief, not just execution
- Contribute ideas and direction to our own brands, including our media platform and The Media Firm.
- Review performance after posting and suggest what to change next time
Systems & Growth
- Use AI tools throughout your workflow, from research and scripting to editing and organization
- Manage your own schedule, prep, and delivery without needing to be chased
- As the team grows, help onboard current creatives and hold them to our standard
Experience Required
- 3+ years of professional videography, with paid client work, not just personal projects
- 2+ years of video editing, owning the final cut: colour, sound design, pacing, and platform-specific delivery
- 1+ year shooting real estate or construction content
Experience Preferred
- 1+ year in social media content strategy or creative direction
- 1+ year creating social-first or UGC-style content for Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube Shorts
- 1+ year producing vlogs, BTS, or video podcasts
- 1+ year of drone operation on client shoots
- Experience leading a shoot crew or training another creative
What You Bring
- A portfolio that shows storytelling, including real estate or construction work
- A track record of content that performed, and an understanding of why it did
- Your own Sony 4K/60fps camera (A7S III, FX30, FX3 or equivalent), full lens kit (wide-angle, 50mm prime, 24-70mm zoom), gimbal, drone, and a MacBook Pro capable of 4K editing and colour grading
- A Transport Canada drone pilot certificate (Advanced preferred)
- Comfort shooting on active job sites and in occupied homes, around real people
- Daily use of AI tools like Claude or ChatGPT in your workflow
How We Work We’re building a collaborative, coachable team where people help each other grow. Ideas are welcome from everyone, feedback goes both ways, and we’d rather talk something through than let it go unsaid. Once a direction is decided, we commit to it together and make it great.
Who You Are
- You treat the work like it’s yours. Our clients, our brand, and our results matter to you the way your own name does.
- You move without being managed. You take a short brief and run with it.
- You bring ideas, and you’re coachable. You make your case, listen, and commit fully once a decision is made.
- You’re direct and honest. If something’s off, you tell us privately and bring a fix with it.
- You’d rather win together than get credit alone. The work and the outcome come before ego.
- You hold a high standard, and you keep raising it. You’re still learning and still pushing your craft.
- You do what you say you’ll do. When you commit to a date, it happens.
- You respect privacy. Client projects and our content stay private until we publish them.
- You think long-term. You understand that the right access and relationships are worth building toward.
This Isn’t for You If
- You want to set the overall vision yourself. We welcome your direction and recommendations, but the final call on strategy sits with us.
- You’re good, and you’re comfortable staying that way.
- You promise more than you deliver. If something’s going to slip, we expect to hear it early, along with the fix.
- You need to be told what to do next after every task.
- You want a leadership title but don’t want to shoot, or you care more about being seen than about the result.
- You see every hour as purely a transaction. The access, the rooms, and the relationships here matter as much as the rate.
- You think UGC-style content is beneath you, or you get defensive about feedback and revisions.
- You post client work before it’s published, or you plan to build your own client list off our relationships.
What Great Looks Like in Your First 90 Days
- Month 1:
You deliver your first real estate and construction shoots on time and close to our standard, with minimal revisions.
- Month 2: You bring format recommendations and references to every brief, and move between cinematic and UGC content with ease.
- Month 3: We trust you to direct and run a shoot from start to finish on your own, and your ideas are shaping our content. That’s when hours start to grow, along with your role in leading the creatives we bring on next.
Partnership Track (Optional) Beyond client work, we’re building our own brand by documenting our founder’s work inside significant properties, alongside leaders at the top of the real estate industry. For the right person, this is a partnership opportunity, not an hourly job: contributions to our own brand content earn ownership over time instead of an hourly rate, under clear written terms. It’s optional, and we’ll discuss it openly in the interview. Client work is always paid.
Bonus Points
- Luxury real estate or custom home builder clients in your portfolio
- Content you directed or strategized that went viral, with the numbers to show it
- Vlog or video podcast production experience
- Experience filming people who aren’t used to being on camera
- iPhone 16 Pro or 17 Pro with a gimbal for mobile-first and BTS content
Compensation
- $30 to $40 per hour for all client work, based on experience
- Project-based to start, up to 15 hours per week, growing as volume and trust grow
- A paid trial project before any ongoing work
- An optional partnership track, as described above, for the right person
We’ll be upfront: this starts small. Hours are project-based to begin with, and we expect you’ll have other clients. What we ask is that you treat our shoots like they matter, show up prepared, and deliver on time. Our goal is to grow this into a full-time role with the right person, and the people who prove themselves early are the ones it grows with. Why Join The Media Firm.
- You’ll shoot luxury real estate and custom builds across the GTA, so your reel grows fast
- Your ideas will shape real content and real brands, not just fill a shot list
- We run our own media platform, which means real publishing reach, not just client deliverables
- You’ll be in rooms most creators never get access to, and your work will be seen by the people in them
- You’ll be our first lead creative, which means you’ll shape the standard and lead what comes next
